The part of mums brain that bled is now no more good and she will need 24hr care for the rest of her life however long that may be.
The bit that hurts is the way she will probably never recognize any of us again or have any real sane moments in the future as she will never change much from the way she is now.

don't despair Malc - I used to work on a Brain Damage Unit and you would be surprised at some of the things that happened with our patients - certainly don't want to give you false hope by any means, but there were some remarkable incidents and recoveries
- as long as she's comfortable, well cared for and not in pain, that's all you can ask for. talk to her a lot they reckon that hearing is the the one sense that remains to the end - just treat her as if everything is normal, tell her what goes on in your day and what's happening in the world - you may be surprised, but even if you're not, you can never be sure she doesn't hear you, so go on, take a chance. Thank you for all your kind words. Malc has gone to bed, I think today has been a turning point for him and he knows there will be no change and it is very hard for him to take and he is really upset. Can only support him and be there when he needs to talk.
