In Flanders Fields the poppies blow
Between the crosses row on row
That mark our place; and in the sky
The larks, still bravely singing, fly
Scarce heard amid the guns below.
We are the Dead. Short days ago
We lived, felt dawn, saw sunset glow,
Loved and were loved, and now we lie
In Flanders Fields.

who died age 24 on 2 February 1915 in Thanet Kent. He died of wounds received on the Western Front and was buried in Kensal Green (All Souls) Cemetery. He left a wife and 13 month old daughter. He was my Grandfather.

I went with some of my family to visit his grave today. We travelled up from the South Coast and made it in time for 11am. It's the first time I have been there and it was lovely to see his extremely well kept headstone, which is maintained by the War Graves Commission. They do a sterling job.

In loving memory of all mentioned above, and all that lost their lives fighting for ours, may they rest in peace.

Their Journey's Just Begun

Don't think of them as gone away-
their journey's just begun,
life holds so many facets--
this earth is only one.
Just think of them as resting
from the sorrows and the tears
in a place of warmth and comfort
where there are no days and years.
Think how they must be wishing
that we could know today
how nothing but our sadness
can really pass away.
and think of them as living
in the hearts of those they touched...
for nothing loved is ever lost--
and they was loved so much.x
