So right Maggie can't have just one.
My OH is making a boat at the mo but has never got round to putting furniture in them.
I hate boats say they aren't coming in the house.
Hey that was lucky him buying 12th scale. Yes think he will want 24th or maybe 16th. Good for you though.
He did make a life boat once and had little men on it it looked great on the lake made that for someone else don't know what happened to it.

I have always wanted a dolls house since my dad built me one when I was little (it was given away to my cousin as I got older). Might think about getting one now the kids have fled the nest and I have spare rooms!

I would do if I was you Maggy . Well I have lol.
It is a nice hobby and there are so many nice things you can get for them.
Just watch you don't get carried away lol second thoughts why not.
Think that is it we remember with fond thoughts what we had as a child.
I loved my dolls house as a child don't know what happened to it.
Go for it have fun.

I never had a dolls house as a child:o(
My dad made one for my sister (4 years older), but gave it to the kids down the road on one of our many moves!!!

Thanks for the info---just been nagging OH to finish it ---he said i will when I'm ready --with a sulky look on his face---it's become a standing joke with all our friends now.
Think after Xmas I'll bring it in and get him started off again!!!

we have 3 in our house one of which is mine nearly finished the outside I ahve tiled the roof with individual tiles it took ages but looks lovely. Inside is decorated and lit but no one has moved in yet. I make as much stuff as I can and love making curtains in 1;12 scale i has a stunning pair for the lounge in cream demask silk fully lined with swags & tails. We had a custom made dolls house done for our daughter as ther wasnt much room to put one in her room. The rroms are not so deep & it is mounted on her bedroom wall. I loce scaling down old family photos and making frames for them thats fun. I find a house is never complete

Sharon, I agree a house is never complete(hence my wish to add a scullery!!
I love the idea of scaling down family photos.
Have to admit I tend to buy the furniture, as I made loads in the past for my daughters dolls house, and I'm more impatient now.
However, I make a lot of little things like vases, brolly stands and food out of DAS, and am in the process of laying wooden flooring and making working blinds from an old bamboo blind!
I painted the outside of my house with paint I had roughly mixed, so it had different tones, then drew the bricks on (gosh what a lot of bricks!), same with the roof to simulate large slates.

Pop into Mc D's and grab a hand full of the wooden sticks they have for the coffee and tea they come in handy for loads of thing lol
I have brought some of the cheaper furniture and recovered and painted to my own colour scheme as I searched for what seemed like forever and couldnt find what I wanted

I built a victorian town house and all the furniture when my daughter was little. She never got to play with it though, I could never bring myself to allow her to....you know how it is....it becomes too precious to be 'just a toy' :-)))

PS....if you need wallpaper.....DIY shops sometimes give away 'end of season' wallpaper sample books.

Now that you have reminded me......Where's me woodworking patterns.....must get them out again.

That's why I buy reasonably priced furniture, so my grand daughter can play with it. Usually under the supervision of .....OMG - just realised she usually plays with it with my other daughters boyfriend!! LOL

I remember when you got that house Maggie. I was envious then and still am of all of you. My dad got me a smallish one and put lights in it one Christmas and I loved it altho didn't have a lot of furniture for it, but sadly it was given away to a cousin's daughter and she asked me the other day in an email what happened to it so obviously she doesn't have it now.
I have always said I want another and maybe when I get my own house cleared and sorted and I move back, I will get one.
Perhaps Susan will make me one lol

Too much to do in my own house at the mo tho!

Can't do it Liz lol.....as Maggie says, I am a meanie lol....could never bring myself to give it away. I was the same when I made a baby walker with all the bricks.....couldn't bear to watch children playing with it and scratching my beautiful paintwork......brings tears to your eyes it does.
