I must have done really well! I lost my next-to-last tooth in 1996 when I was nearly 12 and got £1 for that. My last tooth didn't go to the tooth fairy because I had it extracted at the dentist and wanted to keep it (ironic, considering I begged him not to take it out - the injection bothered me more than the extraction).

Don't know how old I was when my first baby tooth came out but I got 20p and was later told my mum had negotiated with the tooth fairy so I got the money and Mum kept my baby tooth.

The going rate is definately a £1. If we take teeth out in the surgery, we give the kids a special fairy box which tells fairy to give a little more - the parents must hate us for that!
We had a child in last week who informed us that the toothfairy had left him £20 for the first tooth! The mother confirmed this.

I'm sure when I was little it was sixpence (six old pence that is)

My son used to get 10p - and towards the end 20p - but I was a single parent in those days and money was a bit tight. He's 28 now!

When he lost his last tooth I wrote him a poem and left him £1 - he was so excited!!

"You're keeping me busy Stevie my dear
Rushing around over there over here
First I'm in Africa, then I'm in Greece
Then I'm in France where they're 5 Francs a piece
But I rushed back here fast 'cos you're such a sweet kid
And as it's your last tooth I've left you a quid.

(Signed) Tooth Fairy"

Written out on pink paper by the way!
