Yvette Report 16 Oct 2007 11:06

Despite being a paid member of GR/GC since July 2003 and an unpaid member before that, i have just received an email telling me my membership runs out soon and as i am ticked for continuous membership they are reminding me i will be charged a further £9.95 for another 6 months.......all because i had a few months off last year. I came back on here as i had missed the fun and friendship on here and i wanted get back into my family tree.

Sadly the site as changed so much i have found it really hard to keep up with everything on the general board and it really hasn't felt right, and too many friends are missing now, for several reasons.

As a result i can't see the point of paying twice as much as i used to for a year.

Especially when i can keep i touch with people elsewhere, and there are other genealogy sites out there just as good.

I have a few weeks before i can't post anymore, but i doubt i will add much more so this is my goodbye speech.

To anyone else who wants to stay in touch who doesn't already have my email/tel no etc please pm me by the end of the month, otherwise i won't be able to reply :-)

I've had some fun on here, shed i don't know how many tears, been touched by some special people, best of who was Gaynor, done some amazing things as a result- like the Sahara trek.........and then there is the genealogy!

I have had so much help for which i am truly grateful, and had just as much fun researching for other people. The Norfolk records office became my second home in 2003/4 :-)))

Thanks for the fun, the support, the sponsorship and the memories. See you around on other sites and London later this month if you are going.

Bye :-)

Really sorry to see you go Yvette, but I can understand your reasons. This site has changed so much since we joined, and not always for the better.

One thing puzzles me though. Why, when your membership lapsed last year for a few months, is your membership number still so low? 572164.
I would have thought that if you had rejoined last year, and therefore were not entitled (by their strange rules) to continuous membership, that your number would be much higher.
Just a thought.

Sorry to see you go again Yvette. Hopefully we can get another coffee (wine) meet up one of these days, and you can come along to that again. (I promise to leave the waiter alone this time lol)

Good luck Yvette, I remember all the fund raising and *travelling* you did for Gaynor.
I also agree that you should not be being charged at a different rate from others.

A twenty pound pair of shoes is a twenty pound pair of shoes..... whoever buys them!!

Best of luck,

Sue,

The reason that her membership number is the same is that Yvette didn't actually leave the site.

She simply chose not to renew her subscription which meant her Full Membership lapsed, and she reverted to being a Standard Member. Unless she decides to delete all her details from the site completely, that is what will happen again.

A Standard Member can maintain their tree, search names, read the Message Boards and respond to personal messages from other Full Members, but can not post or initiate any messages.

Thanks for clearing that up for me Peter.

I just assumed that your membership number left with you and when you rejoined you were given a new number.
I hadn't realised that returning members with a higher membership number must have deleted all their details when they didn't renew.

Hello Yvette

& goodbye

Sorry to see you go. The boards aren't the same as they used to be. I'm not on here much now but peoples lives move on too.

Perhaps this board is like a seasonal friend :-)

Maybe see you in Stevenage again :-)
