Hi Puss and Daff

I have had about three today. They maybe due to running around or it could be that horrible M word. I hope not I'm too young. Either way they are a real pain.

Hi Capricorn

I Have no idea what helps yet as I do not know for sure what is causing them. My friends keep on teasing me about it being the big M but I hope not.

Hi Jane, I am not on HRT, but my doctor prescribes Clonidine, and although it doesn't get rid of them completely, is sure as heck helps a lot. wear cotton as much as possible

good luck

I'm not on hrt either...........don't want to go down that route.

I just wear layers and peel off a layer when I feel one coming on................it's all a natural part of getting older.

But.....................I want to be a man next time round please!! :))

I found drinking a glass of soy milk daily really helped, soy is a source of "phyto-estrogens". Had a total removal including ovaries at 44 and none of the meds, patches, herbal products helped much. Then I heard about soy and almost 20 years later I still have my soy milk daily.
Hope this helps.

lol Jane.. Someone has just pm'd me with something that might help, and it reminded me why I take Oil of Evening Primrose.. they have been nowhere near as bad while I'm on them, but if it is *that time* then it'll take a few months for them to kick in.

Take care..... friends can be so cruel, can't they?!!! lol

Hi Jane.
I also suffer hot flushes from time to time.

Like you, I am assuming it is related to the onset of the menopause.

Most of my flushes are at night. Depending on the severity, I either throw off the duvet, or switch on our large oscillating fan, which is at the bottom of the bed.

As my flushes are random, and not regular, I do not have a regular remedy.

Hi Colleen - Where do you get Soy milk from I have never heard of it. Does it taste nice?

Daff - I will hav to give Evening Primrose oil a go if they continue. Have only had them for about four days so far.

Bellblair - Single beds. Not sure my OH will go much on that idea.

Gail - I have only had them during the day thankfully. Not looking forward to them at night.

Capricorn I like it.

my big M started at 39, and went on for years...... but I never had hot flushes.

I fainted a few times , all in the same afternoon!
And other than that, I think the only problem I had was a bad temper. Sorry to my boys for that, but I was still a good girl! ;-0)

I had a friend once whose flushes came out in the nose!!
Poor soul, she would get a really red nose, and sit hiding it until it stopped.

I never had HRT either.

Hi Caricorn and Deanna

I am oly 43. My friend went through the menopause when she was 24 but has never had hot flushes although her doctor did put her on HRT to protect her bones.

My Mum who is 80 still gets hot flushes. Luckily not very often. I hope I don't take after my MUm.

Of course you could always do what my Mum used to do.......

frantically open all the doors and windows even in winter, then say

"isn't it hot in here?" while glaring at everyone in case they dare say no!

Bless her

Hi Glenda

I really do hope this isn't the big M just yet.

I don't want to rush out and buy things just yet in case its not . I have to have a few more tests done first. Surprisingly my GP is not testing for hormone levels just yet as she says the results are unreliable so she wants to eliminate other causes first. This sounds a bit backwards to me.

I reckon you're more likely to be coming down with a bug.. they can give you fluctuating temperatures for a couple of days before they come out properly. Hubby tells me half his workplace have come down with it, and I know Rach wasn't well at all last week..

Take care
