Little Lost

Little Lost Report 16 Sep 2007 09:31

I have an aunt in Utah who asks me questioned about it as they keeep getting news of it ove there and a cousin in Australia also knows about the case so I would have thought it was world wide news by now.
Never thought about the interest on the money so as you say spending that much on a new advertising campaign is probably small fry.

Deb Vancouver (18665) Report 16 Sep 2007 08:56

Little Lost, I beg to differ.

I was talking about Madeline this week with my coworkers, they didn't have a clue who I was talking about. Very little coverage over here.

Maybe the campaign will reach the North American public? If so, money well spent.

maybe if logic is thought into it,,,,,

intrest alone will net £3500--£5000 thousand perweek,,,,,,,,so the initial capital can remain pretty much intact,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,

I think this story has had plenty of world wide coverage and there probably isnt many people that have not heard about Madeleine. What I cant understand is how you can justify spending £80,000 from the fund on an advertising campaign to start on Monday.

Deb Vancouver (18665) Report 16 Sep 2007 00:32

Taken from the Telegraph:

Detectives are said to be intrigued by one witness report which quoted Kate McCann shouting out: "They've taken her, they've taken her!"

also from the same article:

But other accounts have claimed Mrs McCann in fact said: "Madeleine has gone. Somebody has taken her."

To me, it looks like the first "statement" is the one people are running with, the second has been overlooked by the majority.

I think much of the reporting is speculation - a family member has confirmed that the computer, diary nor cuddle cat has been taken from the family despite the recent reports.

Please don't believe everything you hear or read - don't forget the media just out to make money from this tragic event.

Apparently, Simon Cowell gave 50k, Richard Branson gave 100k & J K Rowling gave 250k to the Madeleine fund.

I do have to say I would have been horrified if they had contemplated using any of the fund towards a defense in court if it actually comes to that

My apologies to Kris for my most flipant reply.

I accept that my irritation with the lack of progress herein is shared by all.

Please forgive me.

But can I take Muffy up on her last post ?
( purely for the sake of argument .............. of course )

The McCanns have not been charged with anything yet. So what is all this about Branson giving money for their defence fees, and the McCanns seeing their lawyers. The many spokemans the McCanns seems to have speaking for them. I think it is all getting out of hand. What is the truth of it all I do not know. I only know that Madeleine is still missing, some one knows something about the whereabouts of this little girl. This is the first case I have heard about where money seem to be so much a part of all this, it leaves a horrible taste in the mouth.

The UK press have been a disgrace throughout this.

Whether the McCanns are guilty or innocent the average UK citizen had the right to some decent investigative journalism.

People complain that the PJs take on things makes no sense. The original abduction claim makes even less sense. But it's taken since May for our press to admit it.

As has been said before. NOTHING stacks up. Not on either side of the fence but the fact that our press stayed quiet for so long when the whole of Europe were saying otherwise has made us a laughing stock.xx

InspectorGreenPen Report 15 Sep 2007 22:07

I don't think they will put their case directly What will happen is that a spokesperson, member of the family such as Philomena, will issue a statement to the press.

What I still find strange is how the family have had access to the press in this way. Or is it that the likes of the Mirror and Sky are paying them?

How can we comprehend the thoughts of a mother discovering that her precious daughter has gone......my brain would be numb.......how many people on hearing bad news start to laugh.....

The 'press' seem to be picking these people to death....how many remember the case in Australia.....a mother was imprisoned for life after her daughter disappeared and no-one believed her story that she had been taken by dingoes.

The case against them is all speculation.....so called 'leaked' reports....

Not mentioning any names but recently we have remembered a person who was thought to have been hounded to death by the press

Again that could have been a confused account of the words at the time. Nobody would really be thinking about who said what...and again it still hasn't been confirmed bypolice that is what was said.

I do agree, that if that is what she said, its a very strange thing to thing of before, 'where is she' or Maddies gone' or 'she's not there'

InspectorGreenPen

InspectorGreenPen Report 15 Sep 2007 21:19

What keeps ringing in my head, are the words that Kate McCann said when the child was found to be missing.

"They have taken her"

This keeps coming back to haunt me time and time again. It is almost she was confirming something she knew was going to happen.

Surely these are not the words of a mother who has just discovered her daughter has gone missing?. You would have expected something like Maddie's not in bed, or Maddie's gone missing?
