Parasites the lot of them.

Bring on the revolution.

The only one I have any time for is Anne who refused to let her kids have titles and is the hardest working of all the Queen's kids.

She does amazing work with Save the Children.

I'll agree with that Gwynne, Ann does do a lot of work, unpublicised too.

I seriously have doubts as to whether Charles is fit to be King, and especially as Head of the Church of England. What kind of example is he?

I know he's a great environmentalist and all that, but even then shows double standards/

Mind you, they make a good tourist attraction.

I ought to have no hesitation in agreeing with Gwynne. However, I've never really been convinced that republics are any more equitable.

I absolutely admire the Queen, what a long reign and how very boring most of it must have been! I love the pomp, the palaver, the horses, the colour, the tradition, the history. Wont be joining Gwynne by the guillotine:-) lol BC XX

True in a way Fiona, but the monarchy don't have much say in the running of the country any more, we are almost a republic anyway.

Would having an elected president instead of an elected prime minister really be a worse alternative?

I think they do bring in a lot of tourism and therefore money to London, they maintain some 'national treasures' in terms of houses, parks etc and art which otherwise might be lost to America etc.
So from that point of view think they are probably 'worth it'.

Certainly wouldn't want to get rid of them to bring in a 'president' a la France ....I think when William becomes King we will possibly have more of a relaxed monarchy ,similar to European royalty perhaps, Certainly think some of the 'lesser Royals' should pay their own way, but think most of them do now.......what's Andy doing these days?lol

I have always believed in the Monarchy - until Charles 'grew up',

I feel the true Royals will end with Elizabeth 2...

... the national joke will start with Charles

sad to have one of our precious parts of our history end.

Oh George, I went all shivery then.........!

I have no problem with the close royal family, BUT........I do think Andrew and Edward should pull their weight a bit......what do they do??

I respect and admire the Queen, and Anne seems to be making herself useful quietly and effectively. Charles however seems to be the epitomy of the upper class twit,he did apparently fail to recognise or grasp the skills required to operate a tea bag. Perhaps he should follow the example of an illustrious ancestor and clear orf to France with his bint. Andrew appears to have a good head on his shoulders but seems to be incredibly self centred. The majority of the hangers on seem to have no grasp of REAL LIFE. Their main worry seems to be where the next banquet is coming from.
Having said that do we really want a republic with Tone an Cherie as el Presidente??? I sure as hell don't.

I was going to say i dont mind either way really

but

ive decided no do away wiv em cos when i was a kid they made us walk 2 miles in the piddling down rain to see the queen for her silver jubbly and she didnt even stop the car, not even a pigging wave out the window!!

And when i met prince Charles in Aldershot when i was a kid he thought i was a boy and that aint on at all, I mean how many boys do you know called Jacqueline fgs

I think that well justifies my case lol

totally agree with George.

Would anyone like to be the Queen, and put up with being in a goldfish bowl?

Like B C I love the pomp.No one can compete with the way we do that . It brings in a lot of revenue.

I also agree that the minor royals are a waste of time, but Princess Anne is a hard worker, and we don't always realise the amount of work they do.
If you look at the court circular in,say, the Telegraph,it will list all the functions they are at.

I'd rather a Monarch than a President anytime, and I hope we retain it.
