has anyone else noticed that there seems to be less choice when you go to buy a bar of soap? Masses of liquid soaps available, shelves full of them Are most people now using the liquid soaps? Out of interest, what do you use?

We use both as well. Usually an antiseptic handwash in bathroom and kitchen but there is a bar of soap in the bathroom too. What with them and various lotions and potions and individual choices of shower gel, there always seems a clutter in our bathroom. I have some bars of Pears soap in the drawer. Mum always used to buy soap and store it saying it lasted longer. I don't know about that but it makes the clothes in the drawer smell nice. Gwyn

I have liquid soap at the sinks but OH prefers a bar of soap, so keep one in the shower and main bathroom sink for his use. x Jill

I think its because there are so many other products out now. Where everyone used to use soap to wash all over their body now a lot of people use a shower gel or bodywash, a facial wash and hand wash all liquid. Jax xx

I always use liquids soaps as I used to find my ex oh left black oil marks on my bars of soap from him being a mechanic, it then dawned on me that bars of soap must be unhygeinic as his oil was left on it, so that meant germs were left on it ready for the next person to spread them to themselves, right or wrong that is my reason for using liquid soap. I agree, there's very little choice of soap bars nowadays, which I find irritating. I'm allergic to lots of soaps, and the liquid ones usually set off an allergy, so I stick to neutral unperfumed bars. There used to be several types on the market, but there's very little now. The paediatrician here in Italy told me not to use talcum powder when my son was born, because it gets into the lungs.

I forget to look in Boots Kay, maybe I should pop in next time I am in town Jax, the choice is somewhat bewildering these days, and so expensive I wondered that about germs as well Gillie, guess that is why servcie areas and the like use liquid soaps, less chance of cross infection Claire, talc is hard to come by, not much choice at all, I must admit I tend to use Johnsons baby talc, just don't tell anyone ;-)) It would help if they didn't keep changing the formula wouldn't it Mary, they keep 'improving' these things, without thought of allergies and the like Dee xx

Like most on here we use both. Plus shower gel in the shower. But why do soaps crack and look horrible after a short while? Ann Glos

Dee you are right they can be expensive and there are so many out now its hard to choose. I normally use the same products as I have sensitive skin but stock up on them when they are on offer, which seems to go on a rota in the different shops so it suits me fine lol

I like the poem Pat ;-)) I wish I knew Ann, I thought it was just me. Mother in law used to keep hers in the airing cupboard before she used it and it was meant to make it last longer when she started using it. Mind you her airing cupboard was not as well lagged as mine so it used to get quite hot. But I must admit after a while mine looks quite unpleasant Dee x
