I lost an aunt to cancer earlier this year. I now have an uncle (my last remaining uncle out of 8) who is also suffering with cancer on his head. He had an horrific operation earlier this year, which left him with deep gouges in his scalp, which have never healed properly. Now he has had a lump, the size of a small mandarin come up behind his ear and has been told this is cancerous. He is going into hospital on Tuesday to have this lump removed and the op involves cutting from behind his ear to under his chin. He's 80 now with a dodgy heart, so this is adding to everyone's worries about his op. My mum is currently staying with my aunt (his wife) who has dementia, as she cannot be left on her own. Please send positive thoughts that the op goes alright and he makes a full recovery. (UPDATED) Many thanks. AL

Thanks for the kind messages. I have a stinking headache at the moment - I guess it's all on my mind. Aunt & Uncle live a three hours drive away from me, but I'll be going down there on Thursday to visit him and see Mum and Aunt - Mum will probably need a bit of a break from Auntie! Then I'll pick Mum up on Sunday, as she has a hospital appointment herself on Monday. I don't know when Uncle will be able to come out of hospital, if everything goes ok, but they were talking about a week. If not, I guess I'll be taking Mum back down there on Monday night. AL

Well, he's in hospital now and they're starting the op at midday tomorrow (Wed). The operation will last for approx 10 hours! They also told him today that he might need a follow-up op in a few days time. I'm going to visit him on Thursday. No-one can go tomorrow as the op will be going on until 10 pm. He's in Gods hands now. AL
