My baby sister being born and me feeding her ....taking my other sister to school coz she was so bad ...mum got her in early coz of my little sister being born!!!!!! getting my new red bike !!!! pony tails

Lesley-yes we did have half days out Sunday afternoons the whole family would pile into any available vehicles and head off to Cleveleys or Fleetwood with butties and crisps for a few hours at the coast-not holidays though,all were self employed and so couldn't afford a break. What a wonderfull time we all had though-real family bonding.

My Lambretta with union jack seat, fly screen & mirrows of course, time of my life, Monty Python Flying Circus, leaving school, starting work and college, and the music to die for, first package holliday to Spain, dances with live bands, just goes on and on

Married in '62 wedding dress cost £5 wedding ring £5 whole wedding £40 Big Black Daimler to the Church coutesy of brother in law tomy uncle.
walked home could not afford a taxi and had 1s 11halfpenny to last the first week.
No honeymoon just a weeks holiday no money but we enjoyed just being together.
Working together as Lab Technicians at Bradford Institute of Technology and nightschool after working all day and sitting in the cafe listening to the juke box between work and night school drinking coffee.
We had less money less material things but what we had we appreciated, things were calmer and slower and everyone seemed more caring, people helped each other and coutesy still abounded.
Ah they say we onlyremember the good things but believe me I feel honoured to have been born when I was.
That was my 60's when all the family was here and well enough to enjoy life. Wendy

The best thing then was it was " Love and Peace ".
Being able to go to the park in the middle of London on our own, no need for adults !
Buying Red Rover bus ticket and going all over for the day.
Hammersmith Palais on a Saturday morning.
False eye-lashes that looked like dead spiders.
Wearing bells round your neck cos it was cool.
Large groups of us sitting in coffee bars for hours.
Living in a bedsit in Earls Court.
Oh happy days lol.

Planing to go to San Francisco and be a Hippy in 1967 - I was a school kid then lol

Lots of nappy changing, bottles, mashed food and trips out in me pram. I was born the beginning of 1969. The result of my mam not taking the newly available pill quick enough!
Wonderful to read about everyone elses experiences though!

Only had TV in black & white, few buses and not a calculator in sight never mind a computer!

No fridge, no central heating, no washing machine...

I remember going to a club in London called the UFO Club, which had an unknown band playing.

They were called the Pink Floyd ...

Should I mention the 3 months in an isolation hospital at the age of 6, and the awful treatment I received there?
Literally in a room on my own, no TV, no games, in a cot, not allowed out at all (couldn't walk when I left).
Nurses walked from the room next door, which had 3 TB patients in it, into my room - I didn't have TB. Smoked & laughed while they force fed me - only the once as they could get it down by force, but couldn't make it stay there!!
No bath or hair wash in all the time I was there apart from the last day. There was a bath of water and we who were leaving were put in the same water and our hair washed with soap - first thing mum did was have my (what was) waist length hair chopped off as it was so matted. The boy who went into the bath after me peed in it and was thoroughly smacked.

There are other things I could say about my treatment, suffice to say it wasn't all sweetness, liberation & roses - it would be child abuse nowadays.

i left school 67, first job--trainee millinary machinist, i can even remember the date i started 4/8/67, oh i thought i was the bees knees going to work in my mini skirt,little handbag & umbrella--one those with a long bamboo handle! my nan bought it for me for my 16th birthday.

oh and the make up!! black eye liner [dusty springfield eyes] panstick, even wore it on the lips, my nan used to say i looked anemic!!

oh it was the best time!

What a fantastic thread - Ive only just got to read it. I just missed out on the sixties but have had some great photos of my family back then sent to me by another member of GR.

TW how you made me laff with the story of the suspenders - I just remember those.

I was in an accident in the early 70's and recall being in am ambulance with one strapped over my face - hooked behind each ear!! Yes the ambulance staff did that! lol

For me, the Sixties whizzed by in a mixture of sex, drugs, Bicardi, and rock and roll. I don't remember much but it must have been good because I smile whenever I think of those times...lol BC XX
