Our water COULD be back on. that is the plus side....................... Minus side is that it will only be fit for showering, flushing loos and washing clothes. still it will be a start..................................... So GO Severn Trent. Ann Glos

So do I although we are among the luckier ones. having a water barrel we have been able to use that for flushing which has meant that, so far we have not had to use the bowsers. Also we were able to go down to hampshire at the weekend to daughters and therefore we are sweet smelling again and did one load of washing as well. Daughter said she thought it was the children who took their washing home to Mum!!! Ann Glos

I hope today DOES bring good news, Ann. When we lived in Cyprus, I got used to water being cut off for half a day sometimes but that was manageable. I wash my hands countless times a day, so I'd hate to be in your position. It takes me back to remembering my grandparents cottage in south Wales. They never did have a running water supply indoors. It was a big plus for them when an outside tap was fitted and they no longer had to go to the village pump. .....Sounds so primitive now. Gwyn

Gwyn For hands I am using the gel and/or spray stuff which does make you feel you are keeping the germs at bay. I will continue to use this until they tell us the water is drinkable as I don't fancy washing my hands in contaminated water. Ann Glos

You'll certainly be hearing a cheer from me, Anne! Looking forward to doing some washing and having a proper shower - standing up in my grandson's baby bath was/is hilarious and not a sight to be inflicted on any human being!!! LOL. Come on - Severn Trent!!!!!!! (I never realised how many times I washed my hands during the day)

Fingers crossed! My Mum and her partner came down yesterday and are staying until Wednesday - have done 2 lots of washing. Mum said it was glorious just to stand under running water in the shower! Sheila x

Ann, my heart goes out to you and all the others affected by the weather. I still cant believe that in a country with one of the strongest economies in the world and goodness knows what resources at it's disposal something like this can happen. Enjoy your shower :-)

Clive, I think they are just covering their backs and that the water will actually be OK. They have explained that the main problem will be that the pipes have not had water through them for over a week. The water will not necessarily be contaminated but, until they have run tests it will not be safe to drink. (i.e. we have been warned, if anyone drinks it and becomes ill they cannot be sued). Severn Trent water until now has always been among the best and purest in the country so i think they are concerned they get it right. Kris, yes, beggars belief doesn't it that this could have happened with no contingency back up available. The following is the official line, so it might not be today for all of us. GLOUCESTER homes could be reconnected to water supplies from noon today according to Severn Trent Water. Water from the restored Mythe Water Treatment Works is already flowing to taps in Tewkesbury and Severn Trent engineers are making final preparations to turn on water in Gloucester at midday. From this afternoon, pumping will begin in the following areas: Quedgeley Bishop's Cleeve Prestbury Gloucester Churchdown Eastern Ave Longlevens Treadworth Abbeymead Abbeydale Barnwood Tuffley Podsmead Sandhurst Andy Smith, Severn Trent's director of water services, said: 'This does not mean that everyone in Gloucester will get water today. This is a controlled process to refill more than a thousand miles of empty water pipes and we must emphasise that it may take several days for supplies to filter through to 60,000 homes in Gloucester.' Some Cheltenham residents have reported that water has returned to their homes in the last few hours, but Severn Trent says it still plans to return water to the town tomorrow. Andy Smith said: 'A full recovery is still several days away and we must remind customers that when water is restored, it must not be used for drinking, even after boiling. It's perfectly safe to use for showering, bathing, flushing toilets and washing clothes.' Anyone whose water comes back on should continue to use water from bottles or bowsers for drinking. Ann Glos

Hi Ann! Yes, we here at Coney Hill are due to get water in the taps again some time today..... Strange tho, we have had another bowser delivered today....... The tankers came around at 3 a.m. this morning and no. 3 son has just filled a few containers, so it's the grandson's baby bath again! Thoughts continue to go out to those who have been flooded, it must have been awful. Someone in our church came back from Yorks. yesterday with a car trailer full of disinfectant & bleach. This is being distributed by the local Rotary club via Radio Gloucester who are asking for the stuff. Best wishes
