An Olde Crone

An Olde Crone Report 25 Jul 2005 00:00

Well said, Len! I havent read the book, nor do I remember seeing Tony Robinson (but I might have lol). I have heard snippets from other people though and it appears to be an extension of a book I read many years ago, called the Holy Blood and the Holy Grail - there was a TV programme about this at the time. I was entranced. However, much later, someone investigated this extremely scholarly work and proved it to be lies, evasions and half-truths, again aimed at the RC church. I have read a lot of books about Freemasonry etc but by far and away the best - in fact the only one which convinced me - is called Born In Blood by John J Robinson. It explains many things which have puzzled me about this 'Secret' organisation and gives very plausible explanations of their seemingly bizarre rituals. He puts the start of the Masonic Movement firmly with the Peasants Revolt - he is very convincing. It is a scholarly book but not difficult to read. As Len said, don't dress up fiction and call it fact! Olde Crone

Len of the Chilterns Report 24 Jul 2005 23:44

Its good but pure fiction. A BBC documentary presented by Tony Robinson really took it apart and found it was all based on rumour, untruths, half-truths and innuendo. The author was interviewed and he came across as a shifty, evasive individual who was not in the least concerned about what damage he inflicted on the church or its adherents so long as it brought in the bucks - which it does. I am not in the least religious but I do like the truth. len

I have just finished all 4 of Dan Browns books, The Davichi Code and Angels are Demons the best, Digital Fortress in also very goo sand absorbing, Deception Point starts slowly but turns out as good as the others in the end. Like what has been said higher in this thread the short sharp chapters are great, the multi scenarios are easy to keep up with and they are definetly unputdownable, if thats a word!

I read this book last month after wondering what all the hype was aout. What an absolute gem !! It's in short chapters which is great if you need to read in bits. Fast paced and totally absorbing. It engages you right from the off. Very hard to put down. :~D I've got Angels and Demons lined up next to read, after finishing Harry Potter last week! The DaVinci Code Movie is in pre production. Tom Hanks in lead role Paul Bettany (from the movie Wimbledon) as the Albino Silas among other famous people. Hope it's as good as the book. XX Sioux

Hi Lou I loved it too! I think you have to take it for what it is - a fictional story based on theories that have been out there for some time. I have now read Dan Brown's other books and enjoyed them all. Can't help you with other books to explain the theories though as I'm not a very good non-fiction reader! Jeanette x
