Lets see. First a drive to Niagara Falls and a ride on the Maid of the Mist and then a tour around Fort Niagara. Back to Rochester in time for a nice dinner on the shores of Lake Ontario. Of course if it was raining, we could always go to Kodak world headquarters and see where the first "Brownie camera" was made.

I'd take them to Bury St Edmunds (abbey gardens) and Newmarket (racing). I live in between the two so I'm not spoilt for choice.

I'd take them to: a) Hitchin town centre to see the lovely church (with a Tompson mouse) and the market - if it was Tuesday/Saturday. The museum which has a Victorian physic garden outside complete with sundial in the form of a pestle and mortar, and inside a replica of a Victorian chemist's shop with various bottles, lavender products - a main industry in the town years ago - and the sound of horses trotting outside. Sadly the Tea & Coffee House has gone, so we now have Starbucks, Caffe Nero, cafe Rouge or Thornton's to choose from for coffee. If it was a lovely day I'd march them down to the village south of Hitchin, Charlton. This is where Henry Bessemer, who invented the bessemer steel process, was born and there is a house with a blue plaque to see, plus a lovely pub by the river which does lunches. We could spend the evening in one of the many pubs/bars, or alternatively take in a show at the Queen Mother Theatre or the Market theatre. If I had two days, I'd take them to the picturesque village north of Hitchin, Ickleford, which has some photogenic cottages with thatched roofs and we could walk part of the Icknield Way. nell

I'd send them over to Alison McBurney! They could join her lot on a tour round Edinburgh. LOL Christine

Tough one! Kentwell Hall isn't too far and that's a nice day out. Failing that... lunch at my local Tesco followed by a tour of the store... :-) becx

Take them to Walthamstow market - the longest street market in Europe - then for pie and mash, then to Spurs or Leyton Orient for a footie match, then Walthamstow Dog Track for an evening of racing followed by a traditional East End curry!! Maz. XX

June Was in Preston last spring as my Dad was born and grew up there, so we visited all his old haunts and Croston where his mum was born. Daisy

Hi June, im fine thanks :-) You should visit sometime, it really is a lovely county. The only drawback is the weather, it can be a bit dodgy.

I could take them to see the Pegswood pit heaps or the quaint gypsy camp i can see from my kitchen!! Seriously, we have a beautiful coastline, loads of castles nearby including Alnwick Castle and the Alnwick Gardens which are going to be fabulous in a few years when they are established. Holy Island isn't far away nor is Hadrians Wall. Newcastle is a great city with loads to do and great shops and pubs. Anybody fancy a trip to Geordieland?

Paul - Molly would love it - if you go down first thing you meet the same old faces walking their owners! ;-)

Andy

Andy Report 7 Feb 2005 10:41

sort of in the same situation as Paul. I'd show them 1 or 2 sights in Saltburn - cliff lift & pier. Probably would go for a drive round the Moors, stop off at Grosmont and catch the Moors railway to Pickering, have a look round there and catch the train back. If time then stop off at Whitby on the way home. Alternatively, I may go to York for the day as there's plenty to see there.

Gaynor, i think I'd enjoy that country park, not half as much as my dog Molly, she loves chasing the squirrels lol, never caught one yet, but she keeps trying.
