Thanks Lesley, And another thing, Julie, my boyfriend when I was in the Upper VI used to meet me after school in his sports car and the Head said he couldn't as. I was 18 for ****'s sake. He told her it was a public road and he could park where he liked. Her face was a picture. Gwynne

Gwynne Tell me about it...1967 to 1972...The teachers wore mortar boards and gowns..we had to walk 'NOT RUN GIRL!!' on the left hand side of a corridor, and we couldn't go into a classrom without a teacher giving us permission. When we answered a question in lessons we had to stand to answer then sit straight back down. Mind you, wouldn't do some of these scallies nowadays any harm!...Oh my God! I sound like my Mother!!

Hi Julie, I think we went to the same school. Did you have to do Latin as well? Gwynne

Gwynne God knows! I never did get the hang of that one. I was more into hockey. But it used to wreak havoc with your ankles! Thinking back, we even had to sing some hymns in assembly and Christmas Carols in Latin. How sad was that???

Just popping in to see if it needs a tidy. I would have joined you but hubby set out for work and returned as there were no trains running. Cramped my style somewhat as I busied with the washing and ironing, pretending that was the norm. for me. Julie and Gwynne I went to that school too! We had to learn 'Oh my darling Clementine' in Latin. Got summoned to a senior mistress' severe reprimand, when my friends and I were seen speaking to a lad from our youth club. It was an all girls school and 'that sort of behaviour' was very much frowned upon.

Hi Gwyneth Thanks for your reply, I'm just back from taking my son to college and seen your reply. There are so many things I had forgotten..school dinners, (there were no sandwiches or packed lunches in those days!!) Science lessons!! i remember one girl spilt sulphuric acid on her tights and they just disintegrated!! God knows how she didn't burn her skin off!!! The teacher throwing blackboard cleaners at someone, and if you didn't duck and it hit you instead, tough!
