So sorry Paul that you lost your dad 3 years ago. My mum and mother in law died within three weeks of each other two years ago, this is the second year that we (my husband and myself) have had no mother to treat at this time of year. We've also lost our dad's. Your mum doesn't want or need any great fuss made, just remaining close in her life is all she really needs.

Paul I think it is lovely that you and your siblings are taking your mum out and maybe together you will all be to make it a celebration not just for mum but also in memory of your Dad. I have had similar things...... one of my daughters died on the 10th July and every year from then on the day would be marked with something marking the end of a school year, like it would be sports day or the summer fete or transfer day for my other kids. 5 years after her death I was pregnant again and got my scan appointment through for the 10th of July. Also my youngest son was due on the 16th november 3 years ago and decided to stay put... I was worried he would pop out on the 27th which was the anniversary of my Grandmothers death... he didnt but I spent so long watching the clock and praying for midnight that I think I managed to stress myself into labour... he came on the 28th. Not quite the same thing as you will experience on Sunday but I sort of know how you are feeling. Be Thinking of you and yours next week Postie :-) Shaz xx

we'll probably all take her to the Garden of Remembrance together and leave flowers and cards before we go off to the Dales...Hopefully, we'll be able to let all out emotions out then...I know he wouldn't want it to spoil my Mums special day....

Hi Paul, I think this a problem that repeats itself throughout the year. Any big event or family gathering brings back memories. For us my Mum`s birthday in Novemer is difficult as that was when my Dad recieved his diagnosis. He died the following February, so Christmas was difficult too. I hope you all find comfort in each other this Mothers Day, and remember the good times. Best wishes to you all. Frances

Yes I do. This is my first Mothering Sunday without my mum, Mary. She died suddenly on 21 December 2004. Seems so strange, especially as I got an e-mail from Tesco on-line asking if I would like to make Mother's Day special for my mum. Yes, I would. Only now I don't know what to do.

It's going to be awkward with my mum on the 6th March as it's also the anniversary of my Dad's death 3 years ago. We're going to take her out for a meal in Reeth, her favourite village in the Yorkshire Dales I know myself and my brothers and sister will make every effort to see she enjoys her day but obviously my Dad is going to be on her mind... It's sad when dates coincide like this, has anyone else had this problem?
