Kerry, can someone phone NHS Direct for you? I've just had a look in our Family Doctor Home Advisor book, which is great, but it has flowcharts which doesn't help you at the moment! How's about ringing NHS Direct?

Hi Kerry Warm olive oil in the ear, and a hot water bottle, wrapped in a towel held close to the affected ear might ease the pain. I feel for you. Keith

Does your local hospital have a walk-in service for when GPs are closed, or is there a 24 hour supermarket with chemist near you???? You shouldn't have to wait until tomorrow - have you a neighbour or friend who could go and get something for you if you can't get out?? Maz. XX

1 or 2 drops of Lavender essential oil on some cotton wool. Make sure that the cotton wool is rolled into a ball first so that you dont end up with stray fibres in your ear canal. Julie

Thanks for all the advice! There isn`t anyway open round here at all LOL no 24hr shop!Looks like I`ll try the advice given until I can get to a doctor! Rang NHS direct they told me to keep it warm, cotton wool in ear etc until I see my doctor tomorrow. Thanks Anyway!! xx P.s.Wax isn`t the problem LOL Chris will tell you that! Hate my ears being dirty! Never clean them with cotton buds either, heard too many horror stories! Just really wash them, so don`t understand what could be causing the problem. Could it be cold in my ear??

Kerry

Kerry Report 23 Mar 2005 21:11

Have you still not been to see a doctor or chemist it could be an infection which just will not go away without medication and left untreated could damage the ear drum. xx

Lindy,It`s only come on this evening, but it really hurts!Haven`t seen a doctor etc. I rang the duty medic on camp and asked for the duty doc to be called out but he says 'Ear ache doesn`t warrant calling out the duty doc' Spoke to NHS direct they said ' Kepp it warm, put cotton wool in your ear and see a doctor tomorrow' Chris spoke to them and said it wasn`t good enough and that he`d take me to A&E at Swindon, the lady said'If you do that, with the triage(spelling) system, you would not get seen for hours' I will just have to grit my teeth through the pain and wait until tomorrow morning and then go to doctor on camp! x

To heat the olive oil heat the spoon first and then pour the olive oil onto the spoon, made my knees buckle when I did it. My mum used to put towels on the AGA lid until they were really warm and then put them against the ear, it is very comforting. Hope it clears up soon, I know it is very miserable. Ros

Kerry, most hospitals now have a walk-in centre so you don't have to go to A and E for things like this - might be worth giving them a buzz to find out so you don't have to sit in agony. They may also have a list of Duty Pharmacies (open outside normal hours) if you don't have a local paper with the listing. Surprised Swindon doesn't have a 24 hour Tesco!!! Maz. XX

Kerry

Kerry Report 23 Mar 2005 21:47

Not that I know of Maz. Will have to ring Hospital and ask about walk-in!

Kerry

Kerry Report 23 Mar 2005 21:47

Don`t want to put anything other than cotton wool in it as I don`t know what the problem is!

Ann L from Darlo Report 23 Mar 2005 21:49

Please, please DON'T put warm olive oil into your ear in case there is infection there,it may make thing's worse, see your Dr,A/E dept or Walk in center tomorrow.
