Will there ever be one? We have women vicars. Do you think we'll see one this century? |

Who knows? 95 years is a long time, but it would take some drastic changes in the Catholic church to bring that one about. Carole |

Why not? Is a woman not capable of the job? |

for me a female pope just wouldnt have the same impact, i am all for equality of the sexes but when ever i have been at a service conducted by a female it just didnt feel right to me, i dont know what that says about me maybe i have secret desires for domination lol |

The way the church is going anything is possible. But that would being going to far. Sorry I believe that the church should stand up for what God's Word says, times may change but God's Word never does, if it did we wouldn't know where we stand. I'd better leave this one alone. |

Funny Gwynne, I was reading about that yesterday. Apparently the Catholic church did at one time accept the story about Pope Joan 853AD, but now discount it as a myth. The story goes that she masqueraded as a man and ruled as Pope John V111 for two years. One day when out riding 'she' stopped by the roadside and gave birth to a child! When it was found that she was in fact a woman, she was tied up, dragged behind a horse and stoned to death! Christine |

Hi Christine, And ever new Pope supposedly has to sit on a high chair with an 'open' seat so that the cardinals can check that all is well from underneath. Gwynne |

Hi Gwynne, yes I read that too but didn't know quite how to word it! I think 'All is well from underneath' puts it just fine! LOL Christine |

Seriously I dont think so Daniel, The catholic church is such a conservative body and adverse to any change,As a Roman Catholic myself though not having conservative views I dont think it would be right having a female Pope or even female priests, and I would think that most female catholics would also share that view. But on the matter of contraception I think catholics should be allowed to use them and most probaly do? On a slightly different subject do you think there will ever be a female Archbishop of Canterbury!? Dave |

Daniel I doubt it very much because the church can't even move on as far as permitting the use of contraception but we can live in hope:) Joseanne God's word might not have changed for 1000 years but our interpretation alters with time and understanding - as well as getting through the problems of multiple contradictions. |

Where does God actually say that women can't be priests? |

Good question, Daniel. Why can't you have a woman pope? What is it exactly that stops women from becoming pope? |

I think if Jesus had wanted women priests, he might have chosen Mary Magdelen........but he didnt.....any way they were not priests, but disciples......... |

The present rule is that any male baptised in the catholic church can be pope - in theory it doesn't have to be a cardinal. |
