Sue Lambrini Smith Report 6 Apr 2005 17:03

i never ever visit my doctor, when i was called in last month for a 'lady thing' i gave my doctors name, only to find he retired 6 years ago ! so that gives you some idea of how often i go ! i woke up this morning in agony, serious back pain- i can hardly walk. my doctors is not open on a wednesday, so i phoned for a doctor to visit. not that i could have made it to the surgery anyway .... i have just had a call from the doctor, he advised me to take ibuprofen- and if it still 'hurts' in the morning, to call at the surgery !!! think its time to change doctors..........

sue it really doesn't suprise me.our doctors have an emergency system where if you go up there at 9.00am.only to be told to go home there take your number.wait for a doctor to call and if the doctor feels that it is an emergency will see you.how can they know that just by talking to you on the phione.it is getting worse.all i can say if it gets worse go straight to the hospitalxxxxxxxxx(:

i only phoned the doctor cos hubby phoned me from work and bullied me ! am dreading his response when he phones me again to see what has happened. what is worrying is that they should know by my records that i never get ill. so surely that should tell them there IS a problem. still dont know how it can be 'a back problem. as the doctor called it- i have not done anything to cause it ! dont do housework cos i am on here too much, lol.

am sorry to hear you're getting this sort of shoddy treatment, but I can't say the same for our doctors. if you want to see a doctor, you ring between 8 and 9 for a morning appointment and between 1 and 2 to get an afternoon one. haven't been many time (although the wife's been a few times) and haven't failed once to get one

Hi Sue, I think there is a walk-in centre in Wakefield. Couldn't you get your hubby to take you there? Hope you are ok. Maggy

It's disgusting...Dr's should know illness don't appear between 9 & 5....If it get's worse phone NHS direct so they can flip through their 'flip charts'...failing that go to A&E & sit & wait till your 4hr cooling off period is up...by that time you'll be fine..!! No disrespect to our Dr's & Nurses..they can only do one persons job..they also have a life outside work...I wonder if Tony Blair would be advised to take Ibuprofen & rest...?

Geoff Report 6 Apr 2005 17:17

I'm afraid if he had taken half an hour of his day coming to see you then he would still have prescribed Ibuprofen - it's the standard treatment. Unless he's an orthopaedic specialist he wouldn't do anything else. I remember the first time I was laid up in 1980, a Dr Froggatt (who was some sort of Health Policy advisor to Mrs Thatcher - he was later disgraced for having a cocaine habit) arrived on the doorstep armed only with a stethoscope ('My car's outside the Iranian Embassy, and because of the siege they wouldn't let me get to it.') His words were, 'We doctors don't know a lot about backs, I'll prescribe you these pills but if you want some relief, you should see an osteopath.'

Just looked in the phone book Sue. You need to phone NHS Direct on 0845 4647 to find your nearest walk-in centre. Maggy

Sue Are you saying that it is not a muscular back pain but an'internal' type pain? Could it be a kidney chill or something. or maybe you twisted it in your sleep. Did you actually try taking ibrofen? (Nurofen), it does reduce inflamation and should give you soem relief from the pain even if it isn't muscular. i would go to casualty if it gets worse. ann glos

Sue Lambrini Smith Report 6 Apr 2005 17:31

hubby not back from work till about 10.30 and to be honest i think it might be internal, its really low down my back- below my waist. and aches all the way accross. i have taken some more pain killers- so will wait and see if they help. its soooo annoying- i was going to clear out the conservatory today. instead, i am laid here, playing on gc ! and eating easter eggs, lol.

Sue - it really is not a good idea to leave this and wait for it to get better or wait for an alternative appointment. It needs checking out ASAP. Any bother - tell them Bendy sent you. lol.
