OCD is OBSESSIONAL COMPULSIVE DISORDER - most people hear about the repetitive handwashing till your hands are red raw, and there are some people who are so concerned that they haven't locked up the house as they go out that they have to go back and check it dozens of times, others who can't read a certain word in a book without having to go back and read it again or read the same page again, others who are terrified of walking near dog dirt that they will turn back if they see some, and most of them fear that if they don't do 'their' action then something bad will happen to someone they love. The list is endless - what worries one person won't bother another but they will have a diffferent fear. It is also believed to be genetic and one of our group has a son who has developed it too. Some people have suffered for 30 years or more because no one knew how to treat them years ago. There are many sites on this subject and the more understaning there is, maybe the less the stigma will become. The late Howard Hughes was a sufferer - see the film The Aviator. Also Paul Gascoigne is a sufferer and many other famous people whose names I can't recall right now. |

Me too, it really annoys my husband , but its a real issue for me! I think thats why I go over the top when I do things like having people for dinner etc. An I am always worrying about what visitors to our house will think, as we have just bought a cottage that needs renovating! |

Hi folks, here I go with another screed but I DO have several points to make. 1. Whoever puts the goods away and/or gets them out again for meals etc should decide where things go. 2. A good tip for keeping your new units in pristine condition is to line all the shelves before you put tins, jars etc inside so you don't end up with sticky or rusty marks on the shelves. Poundland or similar stores sell washable wallpaper which is ideal for this and when it is dirty you just remove it, a quick wipe of the shelves, more paper and the shelves will never look old and tatty. Drawers can be lined in the same way. As someone who has looked after student lets it is by far the easiest way - saves scrubbing the shelves. 3. All items such as baked beans, soups, etc store the tins upside down and then when you open them at the right end, the contents aren't so stuck in the bottom. Now the most important point - I know some of you are only joking when you mention OCD -BUT- as a sufferer and a member of a support group, this is something we are up against all the time. You wouldn't make a joke about someone with a different kind of ailment/affliction so please EVERYONE try to understand that OCD can be a devastating problem for both sufferers and their carers and can affect people's lives as much if not more than having something like diabetes or similar illnesses. There is such a stigma about admitting you suffer that many people try to hide it, expecially at work. It is just like depression in that having someone tell you to pull yourself together or stop doing whatever you do, is an impossible task - it is not helpful and needs more understanding. You never know when your own circumstances might lead you into developing anxiety problems that move on to OCD. Thankfully there is a lot of research going on now and one eminent Professor is helping to make a documentary which should be on I think Channel 4 in June. I'll try to flag it up nearer the time and maybe some of you would be interested to watch it. Sorry to sound off but I am sure you understand why I have done so. |

Good for you! My husband does a lot of annoying things too mommylonglegs, but then, so do I, and I wouldn't swap him either! He puts up with my zero sense of direction, getting paranoid about what people think, things that 'seemed like a good idea at the time' etc, etc, etc! |

Lol. only I know how to put the loo roll on. hanging from the back of course. there are four in this house. Oh sorry I forgot the dog. Usually in our bathroom, none on the spike. But three on the radiator according to height, of the person on the loo. While on the subject of toilet habits. My hubby is unique. He never lifts the seat after dark, leaves toothpaste all over the taps and down the sides of the sink. never ever rinses the toilet brush. leaves the sink covered in bristles when trimming his beard. Oh the list is endless. But at the end of the day, he is the bread winner. He works very hard, and I must not expect him to do anything when he comes home, other than take the dog out for an hour. i must add, I would not swap him for the world. Jenny. |

I have just realised how lucky I am! Our bathroom is half renovated, so at the moment our toilet rolls are all in a wicker basket, so I don't have to worry wether they are the wrong way or not . Phew! |

Oh no!!!!!Now I know why my family say I have a problem. In fridge 1, By the toaster, I keep all opened sauces, ketchup pickles and marmite on the top shelf. All cheeses, butter and yogurts and eggs on the middle shelf. Cooked meats on the bottom shelf. Salads in the drawers. Milk in the door. No raw meats allowed. Cupboard above, any opened jars that do not have to be kept in a fridge. Next cupboard is for bread, Croissants, crumpets etc. next wall cupboard is for Goodies. Biscuits, Choc bars and crisps. Opposite side of the kitchen is the big cupboard. Can opener is above on the work bench. bottom shelf, cans are stacked in order of quantity. But the biggest can has to go to the back. Soups are alway in order of flavour. Next shelf is pulses, dried foods, pastas, rice, flour's etc. All in order of size. Typical store cupboard food. Cupboard above on wall is Tea, coffee Sugar etc, Mugs to the other side. cupboard to the right of cooker has all spices, oils etc. Fridge in Utility room has surplus stock and raw foods, bacon and sausage etc. at the very bottom. Fridge in Garage has all hubby's cans of Boddies and my Woodpecker etc. Freezer in utility room all frozen foods that are used regularly. Freezer in Garage for all raw frozen meats. Chest freezer bread, portions of homemade items, all are labelled and dated and used in strict rotation. Yes, I have just realised that I am a fanatic and deserve the moans and groans of my family. I have an big problem, I admit it. |

I just put them where they look neatest, tins together , jars , packets etc. A packet of OXO cubes next to a jar of Olives looks untidy. The only exception is chocolate, that goes right where I can get to it the quickest! |

Moira, But do you put on the right way? The paper should come out from behind the roll and not the front? D |

paul i wish i could get my huby to figure out how to put the loo roll on the holder. it really annoys me when i go to the toilet and the old one is still on the holder and a new roll is sitting on the radiator cover. jesus man he can write programmes for computers but cant seem to work out how to out the paper on the holder. and it is paper facing thats the right way. |
