No problem Dave but in this village we have a very active Councillor who for some unknown reason has assumed for the past 20 odd years that we are Lib supporters. Little does he know nor has he ever asked us!! Tween us and the ballot box. Assumption is a dangerous thing - let us hope Labour are assuming their support. For those remembering the strikes in the early eighties I recall the late seventies and the dead unable to be buried for weeks on end, no refuse collections etc. etc (Labour was in power). Ann

sorry Ann if I was on wrong track I apologise + I do agree that this labour government are not the type of socialists I as a trade unionist like your hubby wanted returning, They are nothing but watered down tories.!' Davex

Dave - have had nothing to do with armed forces since 1966 - but I voted once for Labour and Harold Wilson lied too - he promised a wage and price freeze - he delivered 50% of his promise - he froze wages. (I was an army wife when I voted labour). Do not like Lib's policy on Europe - do not wish to be a European nor their policy on drugs - our MP is Lib Dem and he stated on radio he does not believe in prisons! My present husband has been weeping for 25 years (as a trade unionist all his life and active in the trades union) he no longer feels he has a party he can vote for. Haven't said what I have voted - you assume. Ann

Sorry Anne you seem to fall into what I said to Kerry earlier and she agreed that services personel and families seem to vote conservative for some reason! Think that is because consevative governments have always rewarded security personel with higher wages? Davex

You will not be flamed Debby I totally agree.! Davex

Debby Report 5 May 2005 23:12

Well for what it's worth -I think that Labour will win but with less seats. I know I'm living in the past and you should never discuss politics but when I think of the Tories - I see Miners strikes, massive unemployment, riots and the Falklands. I rest my case and prepare myself to be flamed! Debby

If memory serves me right it was USA who would not follow through in 1990. Personally I get fed up with seeing all the sailor's wives weeping and wailing - even in peace time - when their husbands set sail for a 3 month cruise. Why did they marry sailors? Before anyone starts I was a Forces wife and I was in Cyprus when EOKA was on and husband served in Borneo for 12 months 63/64. With the other wives in the regiment we accepted it and just prayed they would come home safe and sound. I do not want to see another Labour government. Ann

Kerry - I meant in response to your question as to whether TB would send his own sons out - about Prince Andrew going to war. xx

Kerry

Kerry Report 5 May 2005 22:20

Bendy-I don`t know of anyone who joins up and doesn`t expect to see active service! Although we didn`t agree with why we were going, alot of people were looking forward to going!

Unknown Report 5 May 2005 22:13

Hi Kerry - Prince Andrew served in the Falklands. No service personnel are above being sent into an active theatre. You take the Queen's shilling and you also take your chances. anyone who joins up these days and expects NOT to see active service somewhere in the world needs a serious rethink. The forces have long stopped providing safe careers.

You see Kerry and we probally be on the same lines on this.Oil rules no matter what government is in.Bush and Blair this time and Bush snr and Major last time went to protect the Oil under the guise that it WAS HUMAN RIGHTS, China have probaly a worst human rights record than Iraq or Iran but what happens there we dont invade them why? BECAUSE THERE IS NO OIL. If anything we invest in China they have took all our Engineering manufacturing! Davex

Can't see anyone but Labour winning. The other parties seem to be in their wilderness years and don't realistically offer any workable alternative. TB has done a difficult job extremely well in adverse circumstances. It is easy for a prime minister to look good when everything is going well. It's the ones that are prepared to stand up and be counted that have my respect.

Kerry

Kerry Report 5 May 2005 22:04

Dave, like I said on another thread, I believe if Blair gets back in then no doubt we`ll be following Bush into Iran! Blair hasn`t really touched on this! If he does get re-elected, I hope he finds his balls! Yes, we vow to serve the country etc but would he of sent his 2 sons?

No not been in Kerry but got 2 nephews in and a brother in law who was a Colonel in Army so have discussed it.Agree there was loss of life and certain extent Blair was in Bush shadow but we all cowtail to the Yanks, they did in 1990 to but with respect hindsight is wonderful thing.! Love Davex

Kerry

Kerry Report 5 May 2005 21:56

Dave, I wasn`t in then, but my father went to the Gulf. Your right that he should of been booted out then and I don`t know why he wasn`t. This time though, alot of us feel that Blair was/is in Bush`s shadow and he had no proof of WMD. Can`t remember if you said you had been in, but when you go there and see people being killed, you just think ' why are we here' I know we join up to serve our country, but declaring war on a country for something we think they have but don`t know 100% is wrong! So many lives could of been saved!

Joy

Joy Report 5 May 2005 21:55

Christine

Labour......reduced majority....and with Lib Dems second I also hope that it is a larger turnout than last time....if you don't vote you can't moan.......

DAVE B

DAVE B Report 5 May 2005 21:52

But the thing is Kerry in the Gulf War in 1990 whan we had Tory government in ,we should have gone through and booted Hussain out then and you would not have had to go to War this time so really it is the Tories fault this time! Hussain should not have been let off the last time John Major's fault not Tony Blair's! Dx
