I met my wife-to-be at the beginning of September 1999, started going out mid-October, engaged mid-November and married July 2000. I was 25 and she was my first girl-friend...we've been married nearly 5 years and are continually delighted by our first child who is nearly 17 months..and by each other! William |

We never got engaged either. Were together for about 7 years, decided to get married and three months later we were, no one knew and I went to work in the morning. Had a blessing 12 days later in Madeira. Been married for nearly three years. Ros :-) |

Peter, you don't hear of people courting these days, don't know when it went out of fashion, perhaps we should ask folks if they courted or not?, this might determine when the phrase was dropped!! Val |

Hiyah I knew my hubby 4 month before we got engaged and only 7 before we got married . It worked out we have our 34 th wedding aniversary tomorrow. On the other hand my daughter was with her hubby for 8 years before they tied the knot they are having thier 2nd baby in Sept so I don't think it matters how long you know each other as long as it suits you both. I'd known him nine days when he asked me to marry him, officially engaged 8 months later, and got married 14 months after that. And we're still together - 20 married years later. Lisa |

I've been married over 33 years and he's never proposed! We met 4 July and the following year on that day he gave me an engagement ring. We had already talked generally about getting married but the ring was a big surprise. We got married later that year, in October. |

Met at 17 (he was 22), courted for 18months before getting engaged maybe a bit sooner than we might have, as my g'ma was dying and wanted to see us engaged, she died 1 week later. We married another 18months after that, and been married 40 yrs. Val |

Knew him through work - but less than 24 hours after our first date - he proposed - I accepted and we married 6 mnths later - would have been sooner only had to wait for my son to take his A levels! Married 26 years now. Is a good husband (my rock), a very good stepfather and his g.children adore him. I was right to go with 'my gut'. Ann |

Maybe he is saving to buy you a beautiful ring and waiting for some special moment to propose. We did it so quickly (engagement) as he was off to Canada for 4 months and then married as he was off to Bosnia for 6 months and I wanted to set up home but we couldn't do that unless we were married to be eligiable for an Army quarter.....We got married in a registry office and have plans for a blessing on our 10th anniversary......my fingers are crossed for you sweetie Susie xx |

Do any of you think I should drop a few hints, and any suggestions? When I lived with parents and he came to see me we would sometimes walk past a lot of jewelery shops, so I could stop and hint that way, also he even found out my ring size, but this was a year ago now. AL |

Perhaps we'll be like you then Suzie, we have talked about getting married but as far as I know we can only get married in an RO, cos neither of us are religious, but I'd like to get married in a beautiful place like in Neighbours where people get married at Lassiter's Lake. Maybe he'll propose when we on our two year anniversary (of being together). AL |
