at worst by replying it tells the scamers youre email addy is active and they pass it on to others and you get bombarded with fake emails, i have noticed the y often get an email addy ending with say aol and then just list hundreds of various names ie John smith@, paul smith@ steven Smith@ etc, and hope they hit a valid address, i had a dead genuine paypal one this morning telling me my account had been frauded, and half asllep i nearly hit the link, but i went through the genuine website and i had not been defrauded, they where after my login details, you have to be carefull

Karen, You have nothing to be scared of. Just delete the emails as soon as you receive them. If you have the option, Bar all emails from that sender.

Karen, don't be scared, just be careful. Never ever respond to an email you don't recognise, it it was important they will contact you again. Very common spam/scam this one as is the Nigerian one and the cheap mortgage, although I've not had that one for a whilst. As you have responded to one email you may be inundated with more. Try downloading mailwasher which allows you to preview and bounce emails back, gives the impression of an inactive email address. Ros

Karen My Dad was targeted via post about lotteries for several years, & he sent off about £4000 + a year & his weekly pension. Needless to say he never one a thing. Get those details off to your local Trading Standards Office first thing Monday so they can investigate & hopefully shut those crooks down. Block their emails & NEVER relpy to them, they will then pass your details on what they call a 'scam List' to every crook known to man! :-(((( Best wishes, Joan.

another one is with cars, say you want £6,000 for your car, they ring up and say there from Australia and give you full money for the car + £2,000 for shipping,so you think great, they send you a cheque for the full £8000, but want you to wire the £2000 for the shiping imidiatly via Weston Union to Holland, no probs he has given you the money in his cheque, you send the money, the cheque bounces 3 days later and youve lost 2 grand

Hi Karen I agree that you shouldn't worry about this as you haven't given any specific details. In future - do what I do if you get an e-mail from someone whose name you DONT recognize- NEVER open it right away. Instead RIGHT CLICK ON THEIR NAME in Outlook Express. This brings up a window where the last item on the list is 'Properties' - click on this. You will then get an expanded window which tells you the DETAILS OF THE SENDER. If you still do not recognise the senders address CLICK CANCEL in the window then click DELETE on the Menu bar above. When the message goes into the 'Deleted Items' folder, highlight it and Click DELETE again in the menu bar. You will be asked if you want to permanently delete it, say YES!!!! It's gone for ever unopened causing you no bother or worry. This all sounds complicated but it becomes second nature and very easy in no time. Best of luck -Pat

Karen, you should never respond to these emails, they are only sent out randomly. You stand the chance of receiving even more now, either change your email address or download mailwasher and bounce them back. Ros Trading standards probably can't do anything as the emails are not generated from this country
