Mandy

Mandy Report 20 May 2005 22:35

Snap mines been borderline for 15 years and GP won't increase dosage of Thyroxine...............so I still have the symptoms and am adding more daily.

Mandy

Mandy Report 20 May 2005 22:37

I asked my GP to make mine over active Jaqueline...........just until I lost the 6 stone that I've gained.........he just laughed. Who was joking!!!

Mandy

Mandy Report 20 May 2005 22:39

Most common symptoms weight gain and tiredness, though amongst other things you can have memory loss that is sometimes misdiagnosed as early onset altzymers(spelling) Thats the latest symptom that I've added to my list lately.

your funny Mandy. I've had mine since my son was born, i didnt understand what was wrong, i was eating like a horse and losing weight, and couldnt sit still, i was finally diagnosed with the overactive thyroid.

They won't put me on thyroxine and its ****ing me off! Got....dry hair, dry skin, weight gain, voice drop, when I get cold I can't get warm, sleep for England, lethargic, memory loss, depression, early onset menopause. And to cap it all I have a goitre! All could be aliviated by thyroxine but they won't put me on it because all prescriptions would then be free! Grrrrrrrr!!! Viv

Actually from what my doctor told me, thyroid problems are usually inherited, and its mainly women who get them. My mother and my granny both had thyroid problems, although they were underactive, now my daughter just had a blood test because we think she has an overactive thyroid.

I was the opposite way round...........divorce and two close berevements within 4 months and started to pile on weight........started to worry it was a tumour or something (got the lump in the throat too). Seemed strange to be relieved when it was diagnosed!! Mandy

VIVinHERTS Report 20 May 2005 22:45

My sister is also affected....hers has stopped working and she's dependant on thyroxine. She doesn't have a goitre like me though. viv

Jacqueline

Jacqueline Report 20 May 2005 22:48

I had been having symptoms of an overactive thyroid for about 6months, although i didn't know what it was at the time, whenever i went to the doctors, they more or less just told me i was stressed because i had 2 young children at the time, finally i found a doctor who told me what it was right away before he even sent me for a blood test.

Mandy

Mandy Report 20 May 2005 22:50

LOL Lizz...............mine are Grey moments, everything is a fog!!! Viv If thats the reason that is disgusting...........can you ask them for a second opinion and try to get referred to a specialist? The Specialist could get your levels right.........different GPs read the blood test results differently.........and you would feel a lot better within months.......or so I've been told.

Hi Marion, How are you? I saw an article the other day and it said that this condition could be heredity and that more and more children are being diagniosed with it. Lizz x

Apparently daughters of under active thyroid suffferers can be at risk from diabetes. It can also be related to diet and stress triggers. They are not really sure what happens to cause it, aside form the the specific illnesses linked to it.
