Paracetomal is not strong enough. I have Mirgraleve. You can buy them over the counter and they are about £7.50. It definatly helps with the headache and takes aways the flashing (if you get that as well). I still don't feel right for two or three days. Mine are caused by sunlight. Hope you feel better soon. Jo. |

I took Migraleve for a couple of years until they stopped having any effect. I must have become immune to them. I now take Ibuprofen and they seem to do the trick. Lyn |

my hubby used to get migrains (stress) and they were awfull... starting with pins and needles in his arm, then tunnel vision then sickness then the headache. they would last about 2 days, but if he took the Migraleve at the first stage he was absolutely fine. |

you have my sympathy I too suffer, mine are broought on by stress normally but can come for no appranet reason. Though saying that, the way I live my life am surprised I don't have a permanent one LOL (am ALWAYS stressed about something :S ) I cna usually tell when one is coming and can ward it off/hold it at bay with ibophfen. But sometimes i can be holding it off off several days, so it might be better to let it happen then treat it with migraleve, which is what i use when i get no warning, |

Poor you Neeta! I too get migraines and I use the french version of Migraleve, which I find works well. Mine start with disturbed vision followed by being sick, horrible headache and pins and neddles in my face and my hands - nasty! I read recently that if you haven't got anything stronger you should take asprine as it works better on migraines. Helen :-) |

I never used to suffer from Migraines until three days before my Wedding! I thought I was coming down with a bug as I couldn't hold any food down as well as having a head-ache, fortunately my Husband-to-be recognised the symptoms and I got a doctor out (it got that bad) - he gave me Paramax (only available on prescription) and they were brilliant. I take Migraleve if I get one now, but don't get on so well with them as I did Paramax. Be careful about taking Ibuprofen though - a lot of people are allergic to it and you could end up making yourself feel worse. Also, have you tried a Chiropractor - often Migraines are brought on because of neck problems. I see one for my back and he is brilliant - I never need the Doctor anymore! Hope you feel better soon Kaye x |

My mum has always suffered from migraines and when she gets them her eye also gets affected it looks like some has punched her in the eye it swells right up. She normally goes to sleep for a couple of hours (if poss) and its ok when she wakes up About 3 months ago i had the worst pain in my head and a hard pulsating in my left eye i couldnt see anything through it and went all dizzy went to the docs he said it was just a mild migraine and gave me pills for it cant remeber what they were (its in Switzerland tho so even if i remembered the name it would be no use) and he just told me to rest and when i feel like its going to heppen again then to take a strong painkiller which i take Dafalgan i think you can get it in UK and it comes in different strengths. Last month my sister also had tests done and she also was told she suffers MINOR migraines. So looks like it runs in our family. |

Neeta you have my sympathy. The yellow and pink tablets you were talking about are Migraleve, as I used to have these. I found, like one of the other replies, that I eventually became 'immune' to them so my doctor prescribed Maxalt (Rizatriptan) which are also brilliant. For painkillers, he also prescribes Solpadol which is the stronger version of Solpadeine. I take one of each as soon as I feel the headache starting or as soon as my vision goes. Mine are usually pre-menstrual, or when the weather is muggy. Hope you're soon feeling better, Love Mandy :) x |

I used to suffer really badly - at least three or four a month which would last for 2-3 days at a time. I too became immune to Migraleve and the side effects of the pills the doc gave me to prevent getting them were worse than the migraine itself! We eventually found that most of them were caused by high blood pressure/stress. Once that was sorted they weren't so bad but I've now gone for the prevention route - I take one tablet of Feverfew (a natural remedy available from places like Holland & Barrett) a day and only get the occasional attack now. Neeta - put 'migraine' into the SEARCH box, several remedies have been suggested before. They do disappear after the menopause (almost!) but no consolation if you are 20's/30's......... I always keep Paramax in (the Maxolan settles your sick stomach). Good Luck! Lily x |

Migraleve seems to be the most popular remedy. I take them too. Thank heavens I don't get them very often these days so don't take enough Migraleve to become immune to them. Em C you described my symptons to a T before I found Migraleve. Now I take the pink ones as soon as I start to feel out of myself & just get a mild headache, a dry mouth, & very tired. Triggers for me are potatoes, cheese, flashing lights & strong smells. If you can work out what your triggers are you can minimise the frequency of attacks. There does seem to be a lot of us on here who suffer, perhaps there's some truth to the saying that inteligent people are more likely to get migraines. !!!!!!!!! |

Hi mine have got so bad I am to attend the migrane clinic at a local hospital to see what they can do. I now get spasm,s in neck and head and unable to do anything even blinking causes great pain. I had surgery 5 years ago to remove disc c6/7 so this might have made the problem worse. My first appointment is tomorrow will let you know wht they advise. |

Try sniffing a green apple. I know it sounds weird, but I read it as a 'top tip' once. I didn't take any notice until after my Son was born when paracetomol weren't touching it and obviously couldn't take any thing stronger cos of babe. Decided anything was worth a go and to my surprise it worked. Takes about 20mins to work from first sniff! [cut it in half though, don't just smell the skin!] |

Hope that you are feeling a bit better now Neeta. I also get migraine and find that Migraleve also work for me, but I have to lie down for at least an hour after taking one. I have found that my migraines are caused mainly by food additives, especially monosodium glutamate, and sometimes strong perfume. My worst nightmare is being in a closed space with someone wearing strong perfume, I can feel the migraine starting instantly! Maggy |
