Thanks to all you lovely people. Sorry to moan, could just do with cheering up a bit. My housemaid's knee is swollen up and aching again - almost 3 months of doing what I've been told to cure it, and it's only slightly better. I can't walk far, or stand or sit for long in the same position. It's really getting on my nerves, as there is so much I can't do. Apart from that, we thought we'd finally got to the stage of getting our subsiding, cracked walls fixed, as the surveyor and builder came to assess the work 4 weeks ago. We've received a schedule of works for our approval, so we can agree a date for the builder to start work, but our next-door neighbour has now told us that the shrubs he had to have cut down from his garden (they bordered our cracked garage wall) are growing up again. About six weeks ago, he had contractors in to deal with the shrubs, but instead of digging out the roots as he asked, they chopped off the shoots at ground level and poured chemicals on the stumps, to kill them. We wanted to get all our decorating work finished (inside and out) during the course of the summer, but as the shrub-killer hasn't worked, now we have to wait even longer, until he can get the contractors back and those shrubs are finally dead, before we can have our wall repaired. We've held off booking a summer holiday until we knew when the builder was coming to do the work, so that's still in abeyance too. This subsidence claim saga has been going on for two years, during which we've been unable to get our house decorated, and it's been driving me mad, as I'm here all the time with it staring me in the face. I seem to spend my life having to wait for other people before I can do things. It's just so annoying. Sorry to whinge, but I'm just so sick of it all. CB >|< X

Ann, Sadly, no passing ostriches have shed any feather near my house yet. I did see a fluffy birthday card in Clinton's the other day and wondered if I should buy it, but the feathers were shocking pink-purple - not quite what I had in mind! LoL Paul, I read about your shirt yesterday but decided against commenting. I didn't want my husband getting ideas about jazzy shirts. He used to wear floral and op-art patterned ones in the 1970s, when I first met him - fine when you're 20 and they're in fashion, but he's now 50 and, if I let him, he'd still wear them! He's restricted to outrageous ties these days. He buys them by the bagful in Singapore, when he goes on his business trips - they're only £1-1.50, and he's come back with some real horrors. Our son travels to work with him on the tube into London, and some days he won't sit anywhere near his Dad because of the tie he's wearing! If you and Sharon like it, wear your shirt with pride!
