My mother used to see a ghost in a very old house - old gentleman, smart dresser. He liked her - she used to chat to him and not be bothered but some people who came to the house he hated and moved things around to freak them out. I have also had that experience with the cat - my cat is always watching something in my house (doesn't worry me cause it seems to be an ok thing) but freaks me when she sits there and stares over my shoulder at something that I can't see. |

The last house we lived in was a big old Victorian one. When we moved in the milkman took great delight in telling us that the front living room was haunted by the ghost of a maid that used to work there - but apparently it only used to go after men! And my husband did have an 'experience' in that room. But the room I couldn't go in was the back bedroom on the first floor. I can't really explain it, but it was like the room was watching you. This was also our guest room so if anybody was coming to stay I used to make my hubby come in the room with me while I made the bed up! lol We had lots of strange goings on in that house and it had once been owned by the Diocese of York! Thinking of this, after logging off last night, I was reminded of something that happened about 25 years ago, We (Mary and I and our two bairns) were staying with friends in Winterbourne Abbas in Dorset and the four of us had gone for a walk taking with us Julie, our friend's daughter, who was probably about 5. As we walked along a lane, Julie stopped and looking into a field waved as if she saw someone. We asked who she was waving to and she said 'The old lady in the window'. There was nothing in the field that we could see. Later in the evening, we recounted this to our hosts and they said 'oh yes, she always does that. We just humour her and pretend we see the lady too. Funny thing is there used to be a house there but it was demolished long before Julie was born' Julie now has a family of her own and remembers nothing of this. len |

About 25 years ago, the club I belong to bought an old hall to hold functions. After we had purchased it, I was with the executive who gave it 'the once over'. We were walking up the stairs to the second floor, when the most horrible, frightening feeling came over me. Needless to say I did not make it all the way up the stairs. Another member looked into the history of the building. Apparently it was an old fire hall, and one of the firemen had hung himself there. Deb |

Went to a barbecue yesterday, in my next-door neighbour's house. His son is a doctor and he was recounting that people 'in extremis' often halucinated. I was reminded of when I had a heart attack in 1997 and was rushed to hospital in the early hours of the morning. In casualty I was vaguely aware several people clustered around, the doctor, a couple of nurses, my wife, Mary, also a soldier in WW2 army battle dress, complete with tin hat who I seemed to know. I was wishing they would all leave me alone and go away when I distinctly heard the soldier say 'He's a tough old sod - he'll be ok'. Len |

My Husband and I had a few stange experiences when we lived in Devon. We rented a Bungalow - not particularly old, it must have been built in the 60's/70's and still had psychedelic wall paper in the kitchen! The previous owners had moved into a home and the Bungalow sold and then rented to us. I started to think that something in the kitchen kept moving - but thought it must be me knocking it. Then I was chatting to a friend about it and my Husband overheard and got very cross - turned out he'd been having some weird experiences! I had noticed that he'd been getting up in the night, but just thought he needed the loo? Apparently he kept waking up to the sound of doors shutting and at first thought we had Burglars - he would go and investigate but no one was ever there! Our bedroom was very cold - despite a huge radiator and only a glass door - but we always got really hot in bed, we only had a knackered old bed settee (the pull out bed kind) with a really flimsy mattress, we should have been quite cool in there as we could often see our breath! When we got our little Retriever puppy (Bonnie) she wouldn't go out into the hall - used to sit at the door and whinge until we picked her up and carried her to another room - she did eventually get over this, but would sit and stare or bark at nothing - particularly freaky when you're there on your own. Certain areas of the Bungalow were uncomfortable and it felt like you were being watched in those areas. The garden was one of them and my Husband heard a scream in his ear out there one day - no immediate neighbours! I have to say that I was glad to leave that place - it was also very unlucky. Where we live now is fine - great vibes. Kaye x |
