Many many thanks everyone ! my father in law is much brighter today, we have not been back from the hospital long, and it was lovely to read your messages. if anyone has any advice on the best way to go about getting more help for someone suffering from dementia- i would be most gratefull. i think we are realising that we cannot carry on looking after him [he lives in a bungalow] as we have been for much longer. and we are accepting the fact that he cannot stay in his home alone for much longer. but everywhere we turn , people are giving us different advice !!!! for his own safety , perhaps a care home would be better... right now we are a bit unsure what to do. we are both tired and not sure which way up we are ! again, many thanks. sue. Sue, So sorry to hear about the loss of your Mother in Law, and about her hubby who has dementia. Heartfelt sympathies to Alan Yourself and all the family. I have not long returned home from visiting my lovely Mum who has very bad dementia and had to go into a Home 2 years ago. I have been giving my Mum actimel every day for the past 18months and whether it is just coincidence or not she is so much better physically. I hope that this little bit of information may help you. Take care love to you both at this sad time. Love from Maisie.

Hi Sue I'm in a very similar situation to you except it's my parents, not hubbies. However everyone tends to forget the son/daughter in law involved who gives so much support to us. My hubby has been a fantastic rock to me, & done things way above the call of duty, in fact so much so that my Mum loved him as a son, & he has taken her passing very badly. You will need time to grieve too, & will need to take care of yourself so you can be there for hubby. I really feel for you both, as my Dad also has Dementia & doesn't even know Mums died. Your hubby is probably grieving for them both right now. Mail me direct if you need to talk to someone who understands in every sense of the word. Take care of yourself, & each other, Joan xx
