Starstruck It didn't make me believe there and then but it aroused my curiosity. I joined the Spiritualist Association in Belgravia, London, to give me access, then spent about 5 years investigating, traipsing far and wide with my tape recorder and notebook, studying form Off the top of my head, I would say I met about 10 genuine mediums who I could not fault (say 5% ?) and many, many deluded folk with illusions of self-importance or, I am sorry to say, tricksters out to make a quick buck. If I only met one medium who I was sure was genuine, that would be enough to convince me that there is an extra dimension to human consciousness. I have tried to clarify this in my own thread, 'Ghosts in the head or bats in the belfrey' also in Tracy Blackburn's thread 'Life after death, how many believe?'. With regard to the supernatural, Tracy's thread is best. Far too much to repeat here. len |

Yes I think it was the programme about Gordon Smith and he went to America. Donna, was it in Ottakers, sometime last year, that you saw Gordon Smith - I was there too and spoke to him afterwards. I think he is amazing and such a nice chap, wish I had known he was on at U.E.A. I would have been there like a shot. If you ever see he is on again in Norwich, do let me know. Where are you in Norwich? I have told this story before on these boards: I have believed that mediums can pass on messages and occasionally go to a spiritualist church in Norwich. One time I went because there was a medium from London with her medium friend who sketched what she saw while the other woman was passing on messages. I went because I hoped my baby daughter would come through and the woman would draw her, grown up in the spirit world. However, after several messages to other people the medium said 'I have someone here who looks very serious and always wears a hat'. I thought 'Oh that sounds like my mother ' but I didn't say anything and the medium did not know me or know that I would be there that evening. She called out my name and said some things about what my mother died from, so I was convinced it was my mother and I put up my hand. She that my mother said I was doing a lot of cleaning lately, which I was because I had started cleaning a friend's house for her while she worked. Apparently mum also said ' will you stop cleaning the step at the top of the stairs' The house I cleaned was a walk-in terrace with the stairs across the middle and wooden thresholds into each room at the top. My friend sometimes spilled her coffee on these white-painted thresholds and sometimes I would sponge the marks off, but sometimes I would spray polish on and clean it off that way. The last time I had done that, I had slipped afterwards and thought to myself that I had better sponge it off in future and not use polish! I had never told anyone this, and no- one had seen me do it, so for me that message was genuine. Also the picture which I still have, is exactly like my mother, and I look very much like her. The medium sketching couldn't see me when we were talking during the messages, but as soon as I went to get the picture she said Golly aren't you like your mother. I definitely believe. |

I once had a televised one to one with Derek Acora... he gave info to me on camera that blew me away... I knew about the info he gave but no-one else knew... not even my children. I then met him off camera for a few minutes and he told me more... totally gobsmacked... he was 100% spot on!! Anne :))) |

I am off to see a medium on Sat this week. I have been several times before and find it fascinating. I must admit to being a bit of a sceptic, but wanting to believe at the same time. I really would need some convincing though. I have been given messages on a couple of occasions, but only very vague ones, like 'your mother is here and she said you have been doing something with family photographs'. Well I had been scanning some of them into my computer, but doesn't everybody trawl through old photo's when somebody close to them dies? Everybody I asked said that they have done this, so was it an educated guess on his part? I always try to wear my best 'poker face' and not to give too much away in my replies, hopefully making it harder for a medium to guess if they are on the right lines. I think that a lot of people gain some degree of comfort from these sessions, and certainly all tickets have been sold every time I have been to one of these do's. Who knows maybe this time I will be given a message that could only be for me, and I will discover which teapot my granny hid her fortune in you never know! Jak |

Like the rest of you, i would love to believe in life after death, but I feel some of you are getting carried away in your enthusiasm. I don,t know any mediums but I know loads of mentalists; tarot card readers; hand -readers; etc., and have done some of it myself. Read behind what I am saying. Take as a positive example Derren Brown, who completely fooled a roomful of american spiritualists and if you met him would attribute great things. He readily admits he,s not genuine, although in my opinion a very, very talented man. I just post this as a note of caution. i would love to be proven wrong. happy days |

I went to a local spiritulist church last year. The medium was describing someone comming through and no-one in the building could relate to them. In the end the medium just picked on someone and said 'will you take her' and she said yes and I almost pmsl. I saw a 'spook' as I call them and she told me I was in a wonderful relationship, he was horrible and I came to my senses and dumped him not long after. She also told me I would have 2 children. I have one and as Dean has 2 boys he doesn't want anymore. She did say she saw me surrounded by pots of money, I worked in a bank at the time and that I would have to do something connected with a solicitor in a different way, I was trying to remortgage my house after my divorce to get my ex's name off it but didn't earn quite enough so did a transfer of equity instead. I would go and see someone else if they were reccommended but am not sure if I totally believe. Jack x |
