Re-start of the no smoking help thread which was deleted by a very frustrated, stressed out woman, who is heartily sorry for losing her cool one day when doing some housework on here... sorry folks... but here is my first message to you all. Anne:))) |

Hi and welcome back Motivators thread. Still a non-smoker, although there have been moments when --- 1 short puff in May, another last weekend. I'm not one for beating myself up over human failings, so have gone on my merry way as a non-smoker and put it down to experience. Before I go. A big thank you to Anne for all she has done for me and everyone else who benefits from this thread. We can keep it going and let her have a little break now and then eh. Love Patty |

Hello folks, Just spotted your thread. I gave up precisely 23 months & 14 days ago, I am not a youngster, was no slouch played football and etc, been toofing since I was 11, but I gave up the day after a significant birthday and a year before my first G.child. It ain't easy, I didn't do patches, gum or the like and my builders temper was even and still is short...but, I did get the wife to put £40 in cash away every week have a look what that looks like after a twelve month..... Its a good incentive. Even after all this time I know I'm not 'safe' the occasional pang strikes, so I have fight back reminders in my head to say no. One is the G.Child, two is my health, three is the money and etc. Bonus's are... clean house, car, van etc. but the best is the pride my children have in me. If my story helps or nudges anyone into stopping the fags I'll add that to the pride. Bob |

Hello Folks, Have just spotted your thread and thought I would give a bit of encouragement, I gave up smoking 5 years ago in August , I used the patches for 6 weeks and never looked back. I feel so much better no out of breath climbing stairs , no stinky clothes a clean house ie no niccotine stains anywhere , and last but not least the pride on my Grandchildren's faces when I gave up was well worth it. lol...Sandra... glad to know that some people still add to the thread and that it is still needed... stress is a terrible thing for people like us... who are trying so hard to give up the fags... but with this thread and the people who give their support, tips and maybe just a good-day every now and then... we can overcome our troubles and get on with the job in hand! Hi everyone, I perhaps should join the club. I moved to France in Feb, where I might add the baccy is cheaper. I packed up smoking in March. The trouble is I am now putting the weight on, how does everyone else cope. I don't like having this extra weight. I packed up for a year once before but went back to smoking as I hated myself with the weight on. I might add, hubby loves me not smoking. Reformed smoker of the worst kind. Love Hilary. x |

I was a 40-60 a day man and even smoked whilst in the Forces . I gave up two and a bit years ago due to the fact I was getting breathless very easily. The doctor has informed me that I am one of the lucky ones because I have only damaged my lungs and hav'nt died through smoking. Also over two years I have saved over £4000 which went on a cruise earlier this year so yes it is hard giving up , but belive me when I say it is worth it. |

I feel quite guilty that I have not been on here, supporting you all, especially as next week, I shall be smoke free for four years...after smoking for 40 years! So anyone who thinks it is too late to give up, it is never too late to reap the benefits. As for Swiss Maid.....you are probably not addicted as you smoke so little, so if you could avoid coffee, tea, and have juice instead it might break the habit? Anyone else got any tips, as this is a totally new board, and all help welcome.....in the meantime...WELL DONE!!!! if you have stopped.....XX BC |

Well done Kim...I'll bet you feel proud! You could always tie a bandage or scarf around the patch during the hot weather, while you are 'glowing'... or put it on a bit that doesn't sweat....lol BC |

Well done Kim. You are now one of the Motivators. Pleased that you are not finding it too difficult. Make sure that you are rewarding yourself. Maybe you can buy yourself something that you would not normally buy and then you can see this as a constant reminder of how you can indulge if you do not spend money on ciggies. Hope you all have a good smoke free and stress free week. Jill xx |
