Susie, lovely of you to think of them. Please don't worry too much, If Val's DiL is living in quarters, as I think she is, there will be welfare officers to help and they will get him home if it is considered serious enough. Ann glos |

The MOD were great when I was having surgery ( a calcified cyst on back being removed). I lived on my own at the time and they allowed my son home for a week to make sure I was fine - they had also sent him home when his father and I split - and for about a year later the Army Chaplain from his Base used to ring up every month to ask how I was doing Susie - that was really so lovely of you to think them all like that - you really are a star :-) |

Shirley, He is in Canada....on exercise.. JUST BEFORE I LOG OFF!! THIS IS WHAT I SENT !! Val, if I am right about your son being in the army you need to know this!!! This is quoted off an official Army statement called the compassionate leave/Travel from oversea's card!! Compassionate Leave/Travel From Oversea's For Army personnel and their spouses serving outside UK mainland... Compassionate leave with travel can only be authorised by MOD PS4(A) for SERIOUS/LIFE THREATENING ILLNESSES or DEATH of the following relatives: PARENT'S, STEP-PARENT'S SPOUSE, CHILDREN,STEP-CHILDREN,SIBLING'S,STEP-SIBLING'S, NOMINATED NEXT OF KIN or LEGAL GUARDIAN. For all other relatives a MESSAGE ONLY will be passed to the unit. For compassionate leave for Army personnel serving in mainland UK Contact their unit direct. Do NOT MAKE DIRECT CONTACT WITH YOUR RELATIVE OVERSEA'S. Time will be wasted as the fact's have to be passed back to the MOD for investigation and verification. When you telephone you will be asked to give the following information: SERVICE NUMBER, RANK, NAME, UNIT and LOCATIONOF SERVICEPERSON and full details of the RELATIVE concerned, along with the name of the DOCTOR and/or HOSPITAL.
