hi mandy.i too would begrudge paying the cost.what tghe goverment should do is issue id cards and gradually take the cost out on peoples tax.not one lump sum.people will struggle to pay for them otherwise.if the goverment do want all that money and people can't pay.what will they do reposses property take people to court.there would be an uproar.i for one would find it acceptale to have that money taken added on my tax over a space of a year.also i feel that childrens id cards should be freexxxxxx(: |

Chaps, Be careful what you wish for yourself ... the ID cards were purported to be planned to have chips in them ... this would mean that we could be tracked down wherever we are by Big Brother. Would you be happy with this? Jane PS: Even with tighter immigration, there will still be illegals getting in somehow .... but in principle, agree with more controls to protect the indiginous poplulation. |

I'm all for ID cards However what if these fanatics are born & bred here on our own soil as so much talk has suggested - will there be any loop holes? will they be water tight? will these people care? Passports are one of the highest form of ID however they too have their loop holes! ID fraud happens all too easily. Much happiness Debi |

Definitely. I'd be happy to carry an ID card if it meant that we were safer in many respects. Not entirely happy about what they want to charge us for them, but that's a different matter! Mandy :) |

I have been moaning about immigration for years - this country is a soft target, it is so easy to get into. I have no objection to anyone coming to this country providing that they will contribute something to it - we need to be more like Australia and America. I believe that if we had tightened up on immigration years ago that we wouldn't have such problems now - as has been stated in another thread, these terrorists are 'home grown'. Kaye x |
