I hope your little boy feels better soon Denise; I've been asthmatic since 8 years old - ooer, 40 years ago now, lol. If anyone says it's all in the mind - shoot them! lol. It's bad enough for an adult; for a child it must be much more frightening. x P.S. As a child, I used to have a little bit of this green powdery stuff in a saucer, Mum or Dad would light it, and I'd inhale the steam from it. Can't remember the name, but it was very effective. Any suggestions - and is it still around?

My eldest boy has asthma and this sort of weather is a real pain for him, on top of hay fever. When I was young (!) there was hardly anyone with this condition. I used to have an air conditioner in boys bedroom and always made sure he had his puffer on him even when he said he didnt need it. He has been doing a lot of swimming in the last five years and that seems to have helped build up his chest and lung capacity - may be worth anyone with asthmatic children to think about swimming as a hobby for them.

The high pollen count has had me trapped indoors for past 3 weeks - I am asthmatic - however - two weeks ago purchased an evaporative air cooler also has a pollen filter on it- this is now in lounge - dog loves it - and as husband has noticed - this room is the only one I do not cough in. The air cooler was not expensive about £65 much better than fans - I think this is because it puts moisture back into the air. This may help other astmatics, hope your little boy is OK - attacks are frightening enough for adults never mind children. Ann

I know just what you and your son are going through. (((hug))) My 3 yr old had an asthma attack on Sunday and the palava I had getting her seen by a Dr as the out of hours service is across town and the children's hospital (down the road) said she needed to be referred by a GP!!!! Ended up going on an ambulance ride! Luckily the oxygen and nebuliser does the trick doesn't it. I hope your son is better now, and he will learn his limits and how to handle this condition. It never stopped me and it can be handled so much better these days. :o) Claire xx

You feel so helpless when your child is ill, don't you? Hope he is much better this morning. Does this heat exacerbate Asthma? I know I am struggling to beathe - and not asthmatic. My cousin is though, I gather it's just finding the medication that suits you personally... (((hug))) for the little one Lily

Hi Denise, My son had chronic asthma when he was little so I know what you are going through. We bought a nebuliser to use at home which reduced the number of times he had to go into hospital, maybe your GP could advise you. This weather is very bad for those with lung problems. I hope he's feeling better this morning. Gwynne
