Here in Taunton the town centre was stopped & the Mayor, a police delegation, a couple of ambulances & what looked like all the fire engines from one station were on parade. I left the hotel & went & stood with the very big crowd of people as our duty manager couldn't be bothered to organise anything. I was disgusted with him but he is just the same in November. The office staff, housekeeping & kitchen staff kept the silence in their own departments I'm glad to say. Vivienne

Bridget, You can't believe some people can you?! I was with a friend in Hemel Hempstead town centre. We went outside to observe the silence. Every shop, person, cafe etc stopped....the silence was ruined because the idiot builders (Balfour Beatty - named and shamed!) carried on hammering. This despite a man waving yelling at them to stop and despite them overlooking an entire street full of people standing still and silent. Unbelievable! I rang Balfour Beatty to complain but, surprise surprise, the promised callback didn't happen. Never mind, the local newspaper interviewed me and my friend discussing how angered we were so hopefully they will be publicly shamed tomorrow! One or two people carried on walking through the silence - I can't believe these people couldn't stop for TWO MINUTES to respect everyone else. Many many people locally were affected by the bombings.
