Louise That is what ive heard as well. The Police took appropriate action after many warnings, what else could they do? Nothing, they had to think of what 'could' have been had they not taken this action. No person going out to kill with a bomb deserves our mercy or sympathy. Donna

Well if he wasn't what was he playing at? Do we need idiots running around stations at this moment in time?

BUT supposing that he was NOT a bomber? Ok he was Asian, and agitated.........wouldnt YOU be? with three guys chasing you? True, he WAS a suspect..But.maybe not involved in yesterday, shooting dead, is a bit final............I really hope that he WAS involved and then he deserved it. but if not? what then. Bob

Merlin Report 22 Jul 2005 14:20

From what I have read,The Police have been given orders to shoot to kill if they suspect that the target is about to detonate a Bomb. This one was to my mind 'Executed' as in my opinion was the right thing to do, however it should have not taken 5 shots to do it,2 would have been enough.i/e The 'Double Tap'. Hal.

Stockwell is one stop further South on the Northern Line of the London Underground from The Oval, which was one of the stations targeted by bombers yesterday. It's about two miles from the area of South London where I grew up, went to school and lived for 22 years. It's a shock to see that someone's been shot there, as its a busy, densely-populated, residential area. CB >|<

Daniel These guys (so im told) would rather die than give information. Lets just pray this latest doesnt bring more trouble for us.

Daniel

Daniel Report 22 Jul 2005 12:53

Would it have been better to try and get him alive? May have had infomation. From some reports they may well have had the chance to before shooting, but I've also heard that a 'bomb belt' was seen dangling from the man. Must have been great pressure on those officers having to make that split-second decision.

A man has been shot dead by armed officers at Stockwell Tube station, as police hunt four would-be bombers. Passenger Mark Whitby told BBC News he had seen a man of Asian appearance shot five times by 'plain-clothes police officers' with a handgun. 'I saw the gun being fired five times into the guy - he is dead,' he said. Passengers were evacuated from the Northern Line station in south London. Police have also cordoned off a 200-metre area around the station. Services on the Victoria and Northern lines have been suspended following a request by the police, London Underground said. Ambulances including an air ambulance have been sent to the scene at Stockwell. They pushed him to the floor, bundled on top of him and unloaded five shots into him Witness Mark Whitby 'They unloaded five shots' Mr Whitby, told BBC News: 'I was sitting on the train reading my paper. 'I heard a load of noise, people saying, 'Get out, get down'! 'I saw an Asian guy run onto the train hotly pursued by three plain-clothes police officers. 'One of them was carrying a black handgun - it looked like an automatic - they pushed him to the floor, bundled on top of him and unloaded five shots into him.' Passenger Briony Coetsee said: 'We were on the Tube and then we suddenly heard someone say, 'Get out, get out' and then we heard gunshots.' Passenger Alison Bowditch told BBC News: 'The tube pulled into the station and we were sitting there, you know, as you do and then there was just a lot of shouting and the sound of gunfire and then people were saying, 'Get off, get off!' 'Somebody definitely went to the ground and as they went to the ground I heard gun fire and assumed they had been shot.' A mosque in east London has been evacuated after a bomb scare - but a police cordon has now been lifted. After Thursday's London blasts, the bombers fled after detonators went off, causing small blasts, but failed to detonate the bombs themselves.
