I would buy Liverpool Docks by moonlight (I think that's what it's called) by Atkinson Grimshaw, because it is so atmospheric and my husband also likes it. Or anything by Matisse as I find his paintings uplifting & inspiring. nell |

I'd buy any work I could get my hands on by Bridget Riley Piet Mondriaan Gustav Klimt John Constable Vincent van Gogh Claude Monet I find it impossible to choose a favourite painting, as that changes all the time. I agree with Donna about Monet's paintings of water. When I was in my teens, I'd sit for ages in The National Gallery, taking in the montage of his waterlilies displayed as 3 large panels. Very relaxing. CB >|< |

I'd love to own anything Pre-Raphaelite, especially one by Millais or Rossetti. I would really love to own Ophelia by Millais or Proserpine or a Sea Spell by Rossetti. Gwynne |

I like landscapes or wild seascapes but even if I had millions I can't see me spending it on a painting. There are so many other useful things I could do with the money. Vivienne |

Hi Dee Like Gwynne I would love loads of Pre-Raphaelite paintings but if I had to say one it would be Lord Leighton's Wedded. Although it's not as luxuriant in colour as many that I like I've just always loved it:) David |

'The Scream' aka 'The Cry' by Munch.... It was such a strange piece of art - almost scary but not quite. I like scenes whereby there are little clues in the background that may take years to discover... and I once saw a sculpture of a womans face with a veil over it... It was so beautiful and amazing - it looked as though you could lift the veil... astounding.... it was so perfect I would have loved to have been able to feel it and look at it more closely. (think it was called 'the bridal veil'). There's also a sculpture named The Veiled Lady which has an amazing history - the piece is now flawed due to breakage... but the story of the piece is interesting enough to want to own it - even if the actual artwork is less attractive or interesting than others. |

Hi folks Thank you all for sharing you thoughts. I always used to think I wanted to own a Constable but over the years my ideas have changed and I think I would probably choose a Monet. I hadn't really thought of other art forms when I started the thread, but can quite understand that some people might prefer a sculpture to a painting Dee xx |

Anything painted by Gustav Klimnt but especially The Beethoven Frieze. Although I just love his portraits of women his landscapes are breathtaking as well. Viv (Art Nouveau fanatic!) |
