I can cope with solitude but can feel totally alone and isolated in a crowded place, even when I am amongst people I know. Does anyone else feel that way? |

Who said that??? I quote AE Houseman 'I a stranger and afraid, in a world I never made.' Unless you take a religeous way (walk with Jesus) at the end of the day you are alone. Friends and family will help, but at the end of the day......... Happy days |

Oh yes Dee, I have felt that. I rarely do now, but there are times! It is an awful feelingisn't it? Comes from lack of confidence and shyness I think. Deanna X |

things happen in our lives, that can promote a feeling of being alone, such as a walk in the park, walking home past houses, with xmas lights on,and the sound of laughter coming from within. received a new pic from my beautiful daughter, who is living in delhi, and yes,i had that feeling of being alone. bryan. |

Dee When I saw the title of your thread, my first thought was 'yes, but only really lonely in a crowded room'. The English language is so brilliant - it has loneliness to describe the pain of being alone and solitude to describe the beauty of being alone. Sometimes I like being my own company though! nell |

Hi Dee Many times I have felt lonely. (Especially since my boys got married) I don't miss the mess I just miss their laughter and tricks they used to play on me. Then there are times I like the Solitude of being on my own. Since my hubby retired we are together 24/7 basically, so to have time to myself is nice occasionally. To dream, think and shed a few tears if I'm feeling that way inclined. Certainly anyone with a computer should not feel lonely. there are so many nice people to help you get over it. GR is typical of that, always there to help anyone in times of sadness, loneliness, and depression. Life is what you make it. So if your feeling lonely, take a walk, go shopping, go to the movies or anything to take your mind off it. Keep up the Good work all you lovely people Regards Jackie |

Of course. As many of you know I live alone and work from home and there are times when I could not feel more alone. But on a positive note, I have also never been so content in my own company, for example, I saw some friends this morning but have spent the rest of the day alone and have had a very nice time :-) becx |

I feel like that often, like you say, even in a crowded room, perhaps in insecurity? |

I'm sure a lot of you are right when you mention lack of confidence and insecurites being behind the feeling of lonliness that comes over somone when they are in a large group of people It is something I have learned to cope with, reasonably successfully. People always seem to think I am cool, calm and collected, when deep inside I am a mass of insecurities. Thank you all for sharing your feelings Take care Dee x |
