How nice. After waiting 13 years (who says I'm not patient) for Mel to pop the question (and why does it need 'popping') I went and booked the register office. Told him he had to phone the restaurant and book it, ensuring they had some champagne on ice, and to invite his family and tell his mother NO HATS! Quite sure he wouldn't be bothered if we weren't married. But I did make him buy me a classy wedding ring on our 12th anniversary. Never got an engagement ring off him, but I do wear his mother's on posh occasions. I still have the first ring he bought me, a little silver signet ring which no longer fits - it was meant as a baby girl's Christening present, I think, haha! nell

Many congratulations Paul. And YES you've got to get down on your knees, it's got to be a night for you both to remember, even the embarrassing bits. My daughters financee [heck my spellings gone wrong] got down on his knees in the middle of the carpark at Glasgow Airport last year to ask her.
