Where I live live a sex shop has applied twice to open premises. The first time they were turned down as it was too near a school a church and the train station ?????????????? This time they've applied for premises next to a charity shop which councels teenage girls on pregnancy and abortion. The charity shop and other people are protesting but a decision has not yet been reached. On both occasions neither my 11 year old daughter or 12 year old son has any idea that a sex shop has applied for premises. I don't even think that they know sex shops exist. Juliexx |

We have an Ann Summer shop smack bang in the middle of Maidstone........... All they display in the window is very nice lacy underwear - no different to a lingerie shop really - nothing distasteful at all. And no risk of any 'underage-ers' wandering in by acccident as they always have a member of staff on the door! I can understand a 12 yr old being aware of the dangers of sex pests, but as for the rest - well............................!!!! |

Let me tell you a story!!! My friend wanted to buy a new violin, we heard about a shop that had just opened so decided to visit it, as it was called 'THE HARMONY CENTRE' you can imagine the shock when when we arrived they did not sell musical instruments!!!lol well I was a very innocent 16 year old at the time!!! |

Silly little girl, who has been telling her all about sex shops? Her parents or her Catholic schoolteachers? Sex shops can't advertise in public, so if nobody had told the children what it was going to be, they would not have realised (for several years, anyway!). The opinions of a 12-year-old really shouldn't affect the Council's decision on whether to allow this sex shop or not. Her opinion wouldn't be sought about building an Ikea or opening a soft furnishings outlet. |

In Carshalton, Surrey there was a terrific hoo-haa when a sex shop planned to open right opposite a girl's (rather posh!) convent school. The shop won, (I think with the proviso that they put nothing 'explicit' in the window) and its been there a couple of years now with no problem. Bev x |

I heard this young girl being interviewed Radio 2..it was quite obvious that her thoughts have been influenced by older people, although she said they were her thoughts, I doubt it..my child is not aware of the argument going on in our town centre about a proposed Sex Shop to be opened, let alone what is sold in them...Maybe the thoughts of children on this kind of subject would be best kept to the family home and should be taken with a pinch of salt, and not given air time..after all how are we or her to know, that in a time when she is old enough to go into these shops that she will choose to do so, or attend one of her girlfriends Anne Summers Party..?? I dont think these shops encourage Perverts or Rapists, these kinds of people do not go into shops to fulful there sick needs, as we all know they go else where . |

Hello David <bec waves> I totally agree! It's good she can voice her opinion but 12 year olds should not know about sex shops and their contents!? Love becx (Who once bumped into her mother and fiance in an Ann Summers shop.... CRINGE!) |

I have to agree with David. When I first read Becx's message my first thought was that the mother was using the girl as her mouthpiece. |

Hi Bec I heard the interviews too and thought the girl's mother needed a good hard slap. It's obviously a good thing that a girl of 12 has opinions but it did seem as if she had got the line of thinking from her uptight mother. A 12 year old can't have a reasoned and informed debate on sex shops because she has no experience of life and hopefully no experience of sex and this was demonstrated by her 'padeophiles and perverts' argument. When challenged she actually started to backtrack anyway and said she had spoken in the extreme. I thought it was in pretty poor taste for the mother to let her daughter go on radio to take part in a debate with adults about something she has no understanding of. Did you hear the comments from the bloke who runs a sex shop in Manchester? He was quite justifiably livid that he was by inference being accused of running a business for paedophiles. Both he and the applicant spoke very well and the applicant said he could open an Ann Summers type unlicensed place no problem but preferred to have a fully licensed shop. I've never seen a sex shop that sells anything that would interest a paedophile. Peoples definitions of what is perverse are all different of course. Sex shops are good things, especially if not taken too seriously:) Nothing wrong in buying things to boost your sex life. Did you not think the whole thing smacked of 'sex shops are fine but not in our high street'? |

It must be where anyone can buy an Ann Summers. You could use them as washer upperers, or cleaners, or doorstops, or........ |
