This book lists the 100 crudest place names in the country, with photographs and an historical explanation for each name. For example, in Norwich there is a Hooker road, named after Sir William Jackson Hooker, born in Norwich in 1785. He was a botanist and became Professor of Botany at Glasgow University for 30 years. in 1841 he was appointed director fo the Royal Gardens at Kew, where under his care, the neglected gardens expanded to 775 acres and 270 acres of arboretum and pleasure gardens. In Cambridgeshire there is the village of Prickwillow, ther eis a Winkle street in Southampton, and Titlington Mount, Northumberland. One place they missed is Norfolk street Slutshole lane, near Spooner Row, a village near Wymondham in Norfolk. It hit the headlines in 1998 when some families tried to change the rather lewd name. Do you have any where like these where you live?

Not rude but one I know is Damhead Lane, Neston, Wirral where in the 17th century, 3 irish murderers were executed and their heads put on pikes at the roadside so everyone could see their 'dammed heads'.
