Anyone used them? Are they easy to put on yourself? Do they look dramatic or drag queenish?

Heather

Heather Report 1 Sep 2005 10:29

Blimey I used to use them in the late 60s and 70s - they were easy to put on then, so probably even easier now. Dont know if you would look like a drag queen - depends on whether you wear a Tina Turner Wig and a mini skirt at the same time probably.

Heather - PMSL!?! *puts Tina Turner wig back into the cupboard*

Bec, I wore top and bottom eyelashes for years in the 1960s-70s. Look on the photospage - the black&white face shot from 1975. That shows how awful they CAN look. LOL If they're not too thick and trimmed to not too much longer than your own, and if you also trim the width to your own eyelids and don't do a Fenella Fielding (who had them half across her eyesockets!), they can look marvellous. You also need to brush them into your own with mascara. They're really easy to put on, but you must use only a tiny sliver of glue and a little extra spot on the ends. They stay put for many hours if they're applied properly and you don't forget and rub your eyes! Buy some well before you want to start wearing them, and practise! CB >|< X

I have worn them a few times out in town, i find that chopping them in half and using the shortest bits on the longest of my lashes works best, just to make them look thick and full... or if you are wanting length you should try a salon as they can fit individual lashes, gives a very dramatic look. xxxx

BUT HEED MY WARNING... take them off before you go to bed, i forgot and woke up hung over and terrified a young man with my false lashes stuck to my cheek! xxx

Had to laugh when this thread reminded me of the time I left my evening eyelashes on my bedside table one day when I went to work (wearing daytime ones, of course). I was still living at home, and when I got home that evening, my mother told me she'd gone into my bedroom, seen the eyelashes on the table and tried to 'kill' them with a newspaper! She thought they were a large spider! LOL CB >|<

Don't do it Bec!! I tried it once and nearly glued my eyelids together. Then I couldn't read the intructions telling me how to undo the damage! Never again!!!!!

Gawd, CB I forgot how we used to stick individual ones to our bottom eyelid! Those were the days eh. MODS forever.

Too right, Heather! Twiggy's got a lot to answer for! LOL Wasn't it a pain when you were going along on the back of a scooter and the wind made your eyes water - the eyelashes started coming off and ended up half-way down your face! CB >|<

Heather Report 1 Sep 2005 13:12

(Or in her Tina Turner wig) Yes CB, I just remember that they used to sort of flap about when you were driving along didnt they!!?? Ive known the glue to get weak and you ended up with just half stuck on and the rest hanging down over your eye - do your remember that eyeliner you used to paint over the join? Id forgotten about that too! It sort of set like plastic and you peeled it off. I have to admit I still add a dab of white eye pencil to the inner and outer corner of my eyes!

Bec, If you're wearing them, just watch out for potty old ladies brandishing rolled-up newspapers as well! CB >|<

I used to cut them in 3rds too and just use them at the outer edge of my top eyelids sometimes. I dont know why we needed them then, I had a full lid of eyelashes in those days - they seemed to have thinned out over the years (not the only place either!!)

Heather, Yeah - Miner's back liquid eyeliner and Superlash! And if you cried, you got the Dusty Springfield effect! Panda! LOL When I was young, my eyelashes were quite short and light brown like my hair. It's only as I got older they got darker and grew longer. With all the crow's feet I've got now, they'd look ridiculous!

*Starting to wonder whether false eyelashes are a good idea*
