~Summer Scribe~ Report 26 Jul 2007 18:57

You have my sympathy, I understand what it's like. While my mum was in hospital having a mastectomy for breast cancer, my dad was undergoing investigation on his prostate. The consultant who examined him told him he had cancer and that he would send him for a biopsy to get a better idea of how to proceed. Biopsy came back clear. He was referred back to his GP for some pills to reduce his prostate and dropped like a hot stone. There wasn't even apology for the stress they had caused at an already difficult time. It can be hard to count your blessings when you're still reeling from the idea that you have cancer... it's very confusing and at the back of your mind it niggles that maybe they made a mistake when they did the biopsy. It's good that they're keeping an eye on you and that he admitted his mistake, maybe he'll be more careful next time with how he words things.

Yes Kay, I really hope that he has learned something from it. You are right, I will be able to get my life back on track now, thank God. Everything has been put on hold for the last few weeks. Jeanette, thanks, and give your mum a big hug from me, I know exactly how it feels! Going to open that bottle of wine now, I think I deserve it. Cheers.........

Hi Maggy sorry to hear you've had this scare but glad it turned out to be good news. My Mum went through a similar thing recently but fortunately hers turned out to be a 'wrong diagnosis' too :-))))))

Kay????

Kay???? Report 26 Jul 2007 18:10

Maggy,,hi, Well there was kind of apology there by admitting there was a wrong diagnosis..but may make make doubley sure it wont happen again,,,,and you can now get on with having your life back on track,,,,,,,,

Well I did keep my appointment with the consultant today and although I didn't get an apology, he did admit that he had got it wrong. What he thought was cancer was just inflamed tissue. Got an appointment for 4 weeks time, so at least he is keeping an eye on me. Thanks for all your advice and support yesterday.

Caz, I did have mine done under general anesthetic and had to stay overnight in hospital (the night before to make sure there was a bed for me).

Maggie, so pleased for you that all is well. I would think that the anger and confusion is perfectly normal. You were put through a lot of unnecessary upset and worry and had to worry your family, only to be told it was a false alarm. I am sure that once you have seen the doctor and expressed how upset you are you will begin to feel better and the overall feeling will be relief. Ann Glos

Good luck Caz, I really do know what you are going through. I appreciate that the consultant must have been certain that it was cancer, to tell me that, I just wish he had waited until the results came back.

Mary Report 25 Jul 2007 20:37

of course you feel a bit angry and confused although being relieved. The cells on the surface of the cervix can change appearance without necessaraily being malignant. it is good that you were properly checked out, but if I were you I would want a check up again (colposcopy) in 6 mths or so and would want referal back to consultant if i had any unusual bleeding or abdominal pain. glad you're ok now though.

MaggyfromWestYorkshire Report 25 Jul 2007 20:34

Don't get me wrong everyone, I am really relieved and really grateful that everything is ok, but feel like I have had a months stress for nothing. Will go back to see the consultant again tomorrow, because I had the appointment anyway. See what he has to say. The worst part was having to tell my hubby, kids and elderly parents that I had cancer.

Rambling Report 25 Jul 2007 20:33

I am glad that you are ok, but it sounds as if the initial consultant should have kept quiet until the 'second opinion', the same thing happened to a friend ,diagnosed with something that frightened her half to death then given the all-clear by someone with the experience to know what they were looking at. Recovered from the hysteroscopy fine Janet, it was no big deal really. The big deal was being told that I had cancer straight after it!
