Hi Donna, I have to agree it's a right pain, I've never found that food makes me any worse, but I know people that have had their lives transformed by a change of diet, so it's got to be worth a try! I've has RA since I was 37 (52 now) It's not a ball of laughs, but I'm a firm beleiver that there is more to life than pain! I get the impression that you could be the same. I won't bother listing the multitude of pills I'm on, but I'm also on a waiting list for some injections, (different ones to you) Hope yours come through soon. Keep cheerful......Suex |

I have had arthritis in my neck and shoulders for about 12 years now, was actually told I should not be on a computer for more than 2 hours at a time - haha, didn't know about this board eh? I have been diagnosed with fibromyalgia for some years too and last year was told I now have osteo arthritis in both knees and the big toe on my right foot. Try not to take ibuprofen which was prescribed but this colder damp weather is taking its toll at the moment. I was out to buy a pair of shoes yesterday and they all seemed to press on the joint of the toe with o.a. - so painful I had to give up and come home. When the rheumatologist told me about the o.a. she told me to take 1500mg glucosamine daily together with ginger tablets - I take two 550mg daily ginger root. Usually stock on on both these when they are on special offer at H and B. I also take cod liver oil capsules. Don't know if they help but again, I don't know if I would be worse without them! |

Along with the drugs, ive tried heat pads, TENS machine, to be honest, the only thing that has helped me is acupuncture, but its costly. Im hoping the injections will help?? Today, having had loads of pills, im in less pain, but it doesnt ever go.....i get on my own nerves lol No one would ever know im in pain when they meet me......you learn to live with it i guess. |

Commiserations, Strump. I too have arthritis and know how painful it can be. I also have polymyalgia rheumatica, to keep me cheerful. Mind you, I'm almost twice your age but being retired I am able to snooze in the daytime if I am awake at night. Carol. Although I have had a couple of heart attacks, my GP has me on Celecoxibs, up to 200 miligrams a day (as well as cortico-steroids). They're great for pain relief - and hangovers. len |

I know how you feel, I have it in...my shoulders, elbows, wrists, hands, back, hips, knees & ankles, I know that sounds a lot, but the pain moves to different joints almost daily, mostly now it is my right sholder and right hip, I am back on my crutch to help me walk, as I keep falling over, when my hip gives way. I know I have met a lot of you, and seem to be ok, but I take Ibruprofen (spelling) to ease it to a manageable level, but this is going to be a bad winter, that is why I am suffering so much, and that is why you are suffering as well. I'd rather die than not be able to eat tomatoes....... I have said it a few times on here, but it is worth repeating. Invest in an electric heat pad. They are about £15 /£16 and they are like tiny electric blankets, you will get one in ARGOS. I have two now, they are so good at easing pain, that I have given them as Christmas presents to friends! Go girl, treat yourself. Deanna X |

I think the change in weather must make it worse as i have OA hands and big toes and they have been playing up the last few days. The only painkillers they tell me to take dont really work co-codamol. I,m only 40yrs also. Star |

Are celebrex safe to take, I have had joint replacement and was given them, but my doctor told me not to take them as cox-2 drugs was found to double the risk of heart attacks and strokes. I am now in pain and take pain killers and have steroid injections. |

I had Rheumatoid Arthritis when I was 36 and have suffered from it ever since. I am now 77!! so I can feel for you. In those days, Cortisone by mouth was the treatment and, although it was very effective, the side affects were horrible and it has also affected my whole life, but I don't think it is used now. I believe Glucosomine is good and I have bought some but the capsules are too big for me to swallow, so I haven't tried them yet.I try to watch what I eat because some of the things that bring on the pain are: Strawberries, Oranges or Orange juice and Tomatoes. I hope you are not in too much pain at the moment. Take care. Love from Sylvia XX |
