BobClayton Report 1 Oct 2005 22:46

As the owner of two cats and disabled child who crawls about the house I try to keep them flea and worm free. I called into the vets to order some 'Frontline' I was told I had to bring them both to the vets. 'Why?' I asked. 'It's the law' she said 'which law?' 'don't know but it's the law' 'but they have been on it for a year what's the problem?' 'I am just doing my job' 'don't bother then I will order it on the net' I walked out seething. Why do we need such silly rules? Why stop people buying more than one bottle of aspirins when when they can go next door and buy another?!! Still the US Supreme Court says a tomato is a vegetable and EU trade rules say a carrot it a fruit so what do we expect. Bob

I live in France and on Thursday last week drove to the nearest garden centre and bought Frontline for my 2 dogs.If you don`t have a garden centre nearby it is possible to by Frontline and Program over the counter at the nearest chemist.Incidentally it is the fraction of the cost over here.I think that England has become too much of a 'Jobs worth' state. This is the first time I have replied to a thread, although I do read them every day. Good Luck with getting your Frontline

Carolyn I suspect it's more about vets profits than animal welfare. It's around £30 for six months supply in the UK which is obscene. How much in France? Bob

Debby Report 1 Oct 2005 23:10

Robert I am always made to feel guilty if I buy anywhere other than the vets! Debby

Carolyn Report 1 Oct 2005 23:11

I paid 20 euros (about £14.00).I think you are right about vets profit before animal welfare. The cat Frontline was even cheaper than the dogs about 14 euros (£10.00) for a six month supply

Robert, I have every sympathy. I also have two cats and I can never see why I have to take them to the vet's, every year, for a check-up when they need more Frontline;I don't have a car, so I have to take a taxi (more expense). I didn't realise you could get it on the internet, so that is definitely what I will do in the future.

Ruby, I have ordered from the South Pacific and Australia! Probably better to get Carolyn to post us some or have a trip to France for some cheap booze, cigs, and Frontline! Thought the EEC was all about 'a level playing field'? Bob

Could I join your rant please..lol Earlier in the year I rang the vets to order some stuff that I would need during lambing and was told that the vet had to come out and look at the sheep - why I ask, I normally just come in and collect it when I need it. Rules I was told. The vet had to have seen my sheep in the last 6 months. As he hadn’t, he came out to visit looked over the gate at the sheep and then gave me my order…unbelievable, just so he could tick a box that he had seen my sheep!!!! Jxx

Lol Robert, that sounds like a good idea! Tony - I see the point that you are trying to make, but I think I has more to do with vets trying to make a fast buck. As far as I am aware, I can buy unlimited supplies of 'Lyclear' (a shampoo which kills nits and headlice) to use on my children, although the instructions clearly state that it should not be used more frequently than twice a year.

Its absolutely outrageous the prices we get charged here.... Clicquot is a disabled cat.... one paw doesn't work due to a run in with an MR2 and they want to amputate it but it doesn't bother her in the slightest so why would I allow it just to pay huge vet bills? and as for flea prevention - don't start me.... i used to get her jabbed every 6 months to prevent fleas as I am seriously allergic to flea bites and then after about 3 years of complaining it didn't work I was told that it stopped them breeding and didn't kill them!! So everytime she went out and caught some from wherever they'd be in my house!!! Aaaarrrgggghhhh!!

Oh Julie, Have you got lambs? I can feel one of those 'I'm a townie, but I love those sweet little baa-lambs' moments coming on.

hi robert, almost a year ago,my labrador underwent a biopsy, and the vet, phoned me up at 9.30pm,and explained that if she were to live,he would have to amputate her rear legs. my thoughts were for her,and i decided it was best she passed to rainbow bridge, whilst asleep. the next morning, his receptionist gave me the bill, and said 'payment terms are seven days,or we charge interest' not one bloody word of sympathy! bryan.

PinkDiana Report 2 Oct 2005 00:10

Bryan that's awful!! Insensitive gits! xx

Here Report 2 Oct 2005 00:18

Oh Bryan thats terrible. Must admit the vets I use for the dogs and cats (different one to the sheep one) are fantastic perhaps because it is a husband/wife practice and they don't charge the earth. They have even said I could put a poster/sponsorship form up in the surgery. Jxx

BobClayton Report 2 Oct 2005 00:18

Shirley, I have ordered from a site in Australia. apparently you can import stuff like this for yourself (but VAT may be payable) If you wan't I will let you know if it comes OK. How crazy is it all ? How much could you sue them for if your cat died? Bob
