Yes George was brilliant in his day. But I still dont feel sorry for him. There are people urgently waiting for a transplant who would have been so happy to lead a normal life again and to enjoy that second chance, and what did that idiot do, sorry I dont feel sorry for him, he is a waste of tax payers money. Torn between sympathy and annoyance. I do think reformed alcoholics should receive transplants, even though there's a risk of relapse. Best has had access to help for his alcohol-dependency others haven't, because of his wealth and celebrity. That he still hasn't given up drinking for good by now probably means that he will never be able to until it kills him. It must be very tough on his family and friends. On the other hand, there are hundreds of people who will die waiting for a liver. It must be so frustrating to be on the list, then read the news about Best taking his new liver out on the town. He of all people should know just how precious a gift he was fortunate enough to received. And, thankfully, he will never, ever be eligable to go on the transplant list again, no matter what the organ or what the cause of it's failure is. |

Well, tell it like it is, Dav!! I can see where you're coming from, though I wouldn't have put it like that, lol. David, just read the later replies on this thread. I thought his condition was a result of the drinking. OK, (holding her hands up) I didn't get my facts right. Guilty! But I read Twinkle's later reply, and my sentiments are the same. It must be heartbreaking to be waiting for a liver transplant and to have heard about him a while ago, when he started drinking again. x |

I don't really feel for him. Alcoholism is a terrible disease, but he really doesn't seem to have made an effort to get better. I have seen him in the pub drinking (albeit I don't think he was drunk) AFTER he received the new liver. He goes to a local health spa, Forest Mere, and lives near Petersfield (Hampshire) where I saw him. There were/are people out there who would have benefited much mopre from a new liver, those who would be able to look after it. Unfortunately, it doesn't seem that he wants to look after his new lease of life. He was a brilliant footballer - but he is only human, messed up, but doesn't seem to be able to sort it all out. It's sad, but I don't feel sympathy for him. |
