Poor you Anne...just had root canal treatment following abscess myself....but I'd have had more pain in my purse than my mouth if I'd been charged £400!!!!! Guess you haven't got an NHS dentist? One big double tooth so three root canals to clean pack and treat (over a series of appointments), plus two lots antibiotics. Temporary fillings done etc. etc. X-rays too. All a lot of work! Cost £82, not including the prescription charges for the anti's. As far as I know it is always necessary to have a tooth crowned following this treatment. My dentist says it is best NOT to have this done for between 3 to 6 months following root canal work. Allows root work to settle and make sure no infection is remaining. Metal crown on NHS will be a further £100, but a porcelain one, which is cosmetic, will have to be done privately at a cost of £300. (unless its on a front tooth I suppose). My sympathies go to any of you suffering tooth infections! Very painful!!! Dee x |

Hi Dee :O) Dentist assured me before we started that a crown was not necessary - if it had been I would have had it extracted. I AM an NHS patient and dentist does both, but apparently because the cavity is so large, the work could not be done as NHS ?!?! In the long run, I suppose the cost could be outweighed if I can get another 20 or 30 years out of the tooth - but we will see :O) £279 for the treatment - £89 for the composite filling, plus x-rays (oh they were on NHS lol)......... |
