Got a request to view my tree this morning, from someone who's sent the same thing several times. I mailed back to say that (as I'd told her before) if she was interested in someone in my tree, to ask about that person and I'd then have a look - if it looked liket here was a link I'd happily open the tree up for her. Apparently that was rude ? It would appear that her research technique consists of PMing people at random to view their tree - she actually said 'since I can't see your tree how do I know who's in it' !!!! |

Nope the people who do this are rude, unless someone says a name and area etc and it looks like there is a connection, then im not showing anyone my tree, it wouldnt make sense at all LOL :-) |

Hi Paul, I will be more wary in the future of who I give my family tree info too. I had someone ask about a name in my tree, we seemed to confirm that it was the same person, they then asked for details and info of how I got to that persons family (are you with me??), well emailed them it all.. and not even had a thank you! This person is a so called expert on this certain person yet here I was emailing them where the info was found. Not sure why I bothered really! Debs x |

No Paul, it's not just you. One person has pmd me twice asking to see my tree & just ignored me when I ask why. Another asked if I had a certain person in my tree & I said no sorry, then when I found, after some time, a possible link he has just ignored me. As they say where the ancestor in question is from, nowt so queer as folk. Vivienne |

I have a copper too - found my grandfathers 'long lost' brother as a Constable in the Met in 1901. Who knows what happened to him afterwards though. My gradfather would never talk about him, so my dad thought something had happened, suicide etc, but now it appears to have been jealousy - they both went to London to try to join the Met, my grandfather failed because he was too short (half an inch !!) and got a job on the railyway instead, wheeras his brother was successful. |
