I,ve always struggled with my weight, was nearly ten pounds born so i think the writing was on the wall from birth. Kept my weight down when younger by living on near starvation levels, the only time I didnt need worry about my weight was the 3 years after our daughter was born in 1958. Constantly on a diet since the 50,s in order to keep it at a healthy level, but when i hit early meno at aged 40 then was really in trouble!!. had to go on high dose of oestrogen to get back on even keel but the weight just soared. Am now nearing the three score years & ten & altho weight static for over fifteen years I am overweight & could do ,ideally, lose about 5 stone. Aint going to happen tho & have accepted the fact!! Bec, I admire your logic. I feel a Harvey Wallbanger or three coming on with tonight's duck. Shirley, I find that interesting. I was on HRT for almost 10 years and had no trouble maintaining my weight. It began piling on when I stopped using HRT 7 years ago. Admittedly, my exercise levels dropped significantly at that time due to having to deal with my mother's Alzheimer's disease and my dog getting too old to go for long walks, but I can't understand why it's now so hard to lose weight. The only way I can do it is to starve and just eat one small meal each day. I used to eat chocolate by the ton, and that made no difference to my weight, but I've cut that out most of the time now, but it's made no difference. I eat healthily, don't have lots of stodge or fried stuff, cut out cake, biscuits and chocolate - I eat lots of fruit and salads, so it's got to be the exercise factor. I need to get away from this PC and get moving. CB >|< XX |

C.B Trouble was not eating properly caused othe problems, Have had two ops for bowel probs due to constipation!!. Hubby sais he would rather my 'system 'working normally & be overweight, rather than the probs I had when i was dieting. My defense now is that as a grt gran I can be cuddley & give lots of hugs to the kids. Amazing how the kiddiewinkles love to snuggle into am ample bosum!!! Shirley |

I've put on almost 3 stone since I gave up smoking 2½ years ago. I can't seem to lose it. I was around 10 stone after my 4th baby in 1984 (only 5ft 2in tall though) and could fit into a size 12/14. Since I gave up childminding 4 years ago the pounds piled on, and when I stopped smoking........well - I stopped weighing myself. Just shows how much exercise you get looking after children all day! LOL I just can't seem to motivate myself to lose weight. I can't believe how relatively easy I found it to stop smoking after nearly 40 years (only stopped when pregnant, and started again after the births), now I'm paying for it! Has anyone tried Paul McKenna's tapes or CDs? I'm tempted to try them, but do they work? I've tried Weight Watchers and Slimming World and neither worked for me. When I was younger I used Slimfast if I wanted to lose weight and that was the only thing that worked - but I was smoking then too. My cholesterol is too high and my blood pressure is up a bit too, but the diet sheets from the doctor are sooooo hard to stick to - and soooo boring! Even if I start smoking again I won't lose the extra weight will I? Probably the only thing I'll lose is my husband!!! ROFL Oh well, time for another bar of Cadbury's! It's only small though, but it is my 3rd today! Sue xx |

I don't need to lose any at all because I'm a natural skinny lizzie. I was always 7st. 2 when I was younger and went to 8 st. at the time of giving birth to my son. Since the birth I dropped to below 7st. and have remained below 7st since regardless of what I eat and how much I eat. At present I am 6st. 5lb and am 5ft. nothing. How I wish was a couple of inches or so taller and a bit heavier. It would make buying clothes that fit properly a lot easier. Kids clothes age 12-13 fit me, but really, mutton dressed up as lamb springs to mind !! |

Shall we all gang up on Margaret ? I'm sure if we tried hard enough, we could fatten her up a bit lol |

I'd just like to lose enough weight to be able to get into a size 14 - comfortably! |

So what makes us like this? Genetics? Exercise, or lack of it? Some of us are natural skinnies so matter what we eat and some aren't. Most of my family are thin, but not all. I'm thin despite eating what I like but I'm also extremely active, in fact I fidget non stop. And yes, buying clothes is difficult! I'm only 5'3' so I get into children's clothes, but not through choice! Bev x |
