I have a burmese, noisy anyway, but in the last few months, soon as i get into bed, she starts wailing, soon as i talk to her, she shuts up. I have been leaving the hall light on....yes i know, mad, but she doesnt wail when its on. Donna

She might feel lonely when the light is off. Keep leaving it on, and you won't get woken up all the time :)

Even if she sleeps on the bed with me, she wails. Driving me mad!

Perhaps she has had a scare when it was dark Donna. get a night light that you plug into an ordinary socket, usually used for children. They take very little electricity and the light is muted. Ann Glos

Had a siamese that started to behave funny if it thought it was on its own, walked round wailing. Took it to the vet, checked it out, couldn't find anything wrong. Cat lost weight and continued to wail, went back to vet, finaly decided cat was missing company (had just lost our old nieghbour (human)) and cat was feeling insecure. Stayed very clingy after that. Burmese maybe sensitive as well. Jules

She is my baby for sure. She lost her twin, but that was 5 years ago. Nope, she had the op, so not in season.

I think Ann's theory sounds most likely - something's frightened her when it's been dark and it's stuck with her. I watched a programme about dog psychology once and this dog was afraid to go into a certain bedroom - it turned out that there was a fish tank in this particular room and sometimes it makes funny noises, anyway they reckon that the dog was in there once and the tank made a funny noise and made her jump - that was enough, just one silly incident, to make her scared of this room. I'm sure it would be the same for a cat? Is there something new in the room or a new noise? They do pick the strangest things to be scared of sometimes - I have a dog that's practically scared of his own shadow! lol Kaye x

For some reason she isnt sleeping on the bed every night with me.....she is fine in the day

Very much so wanting loads of food, which isnt like her at all. Ive done all the normal things, worming etc. She drinks from the bath (i have to run the tap for her)

Get her checked out by your vet - these are potential symptoms of thyroid disease - my eldest went the same way including becoming extremely vocal!!! Had one thyroid gland removed about 2 years ago but he is displaying same behaviour again, which the vet warned me could happen!! Don't fret tho - it's nothing 'drastic' and can easily be overcome by removal or tablets (for life), but I would get her checked out. Anne xx

Oh flippin ek! But she is fine in the day time? Like having a child, fine all day, then a tinker soon as hubby gets home.....hmmm allergic to men??

Oh dear didn't mean to worry you - I would be inclined to get her checked anyway - any change in behaviour - especially eating/drinking habits shouldn't be ignored - a simple blood test will tell :O)

Best get her checked out Donna. Our cat is a week into her thyroid treatment, got to have another blood test tomorrow. She also had a liver infection, so hoping that has cleared now. The eating hasn't slowed up much yet, but she is a lot less fidgety, but still very vocal. Ros.

I best call the vet tomorrow. Ill panic now.
