Because then you're not acknowledging that there's only one and the sorrow won't get you! Daisy

You have all got me panicking now - I didn't realise that it was about magpies. We had one on our patio the other day and I didn't know that I should have saluted. I always say that I'm not superstitious but......................what can I do to put it right? Chrissie x

Manda you haven't lost the plot babe.... another version One for sorrow, two for joy, three for a girl, for for a boy, five for silver, six for gold, seven for a secret, never to be told, eight for a wish, nine for a kiss, ten for a time of joyous bliss

Manda

Manda Report 31 Oct 2005 11:27

If I see just one magpie then I always salute it to cancel out the sorrow!! Debby - I remember the program but don't think I watched it that much, if at all!! lol :-)

Defo 8's a wish, 9's a kiss and 10 is a bird you must not miss. Chrissie - 3 for a girl. On the way back from the doctor's having had my final pregnancy confirmed, 3 magpies flew across in front of my car. Ellie is 12 next month! Btw my mum refuses to see just one magpie and always says out loud 'hello Mr Magpie, Mrs Magpie and all the little baby magpies' as she reckons they're just shy and hiding! Not a word Diana, or I'll tell Mummy you were mean! lol Daisy

Manda You must have been watching a different programme! Just googled it as you had me thinking I'd gone bonkers and it's definitely a bird you must not miss! There's bound to be loads of variations but that was the official Magpie theme song. Debby

another version is..... One for sorrow, two for mirth, Three for a wedding, four for a birth, Five for silver, six for gold, Seven for a secret not to be told. Eight for heaven, nine for hell, And ten for the devil's own sel'.

Manda

Manda Report 31 Oct 2005 11:17

I remember someone saying that 3 was for a letter, but that doesn't really go with the rest of the words! And I always thought the 10 was blah blah blah ending in bliss!?! x :-)

Christine2 Report 31 Oct 2005 11:05

Oh, of course Manda. It's because I was associating a kiss with boy LOL:)) Oh - and we did always say 10 for a dissappointment. Probably depends where you came from:))

Manda

Manda Report 31 Oct 2005 11:03

I always thought it was this - but someone correct me if I'm wrong! 1 for sorrow 2 for Joy 3 for a Girl 4 for a Boy 5 for Silver 6 for Gold 7 for a Secret never to be told

Christine2

Christine2 Report 31 Oct 2005 11:00
